Rit Dye Powder-Navy Blue, textile, Multi, 1

Extremely pleased with this product! I've never dyed an item of clothing before, let alone and fairly expensive dress. But I thought hey! It's been sitting in the wardrobe for 9 years, and I was looking for a navy dress to wear for an upcoming wedding. I wasn't sure how it'd turn out as some of the reviews were less than satisfactory and the fabric was a mixture of cotton, polyester, viscose and nylon! I wanted to keep the 'nude' underskirt the same color, so when that didn't take I was very happy! I used the cold water hand dye method as the dress can't be machine washed and the label states cold water only. The result turned out better than I expected!

Worked perfectly on my cotton sweatshirt that unfortunately had lost some colour after I removed oil stains from it. Super simple instructions for all sorts of way to use. My sweatshirt came out in a great navy and the colour has lasted for a long while now, no patches either.

I ordered this from the UK. It took a little while to arrive, but on the whole I am pleased with the product. However, the instructions were difficult to use - the ones printed inside the packets were completely illegible (tiny, blurred printing), so I had to go to the RIT website to see what to do. The main problem with the online instructions was the bit about adding the salt and dye in two stages - it is not possible to stop my front loader machine once a programme has begun. So, I compromised and first added the salt to the drum, brushing it through the holes. Then I added the clothes, having prewashed them. Then I closed the machine, dissolved the dye in hot water and added it through the detergent dispenser and set the machine going on a hot wash. As soon as the programme finished I left the clothes in and ran it again, this time with detergent. This seemed to work ok and the clothes were evenly dyed - but I did use 50% more dye than recommended to ensure this. So, it is a good dye but probably not totally worth the hassle of ordering from the US! PS Another instruction that was not clear was whether you should double up on the salt if you used more than one packet of dye. I didn't in the end, and it seemed to work ok.

I bought this to dye a jumpsuit which was viscose so l can't really comment honestly hence the 3 stars as it didn't work but probably due to material.

Save your money and buy Dylon instead. I dyed two cotton items, one with Dylon and one with Rit. Dylon was quicker, less messy, and the end result was miles better. Rinsing the Rit item took forever and ever and even then I decided to stop after about two dozen rinses as the water never ran clear. The instructions are confusing (and they are on the inside of the cardboard box so you will only see them if you're lucky). The online instructions don't show you how to use the powder dye but after discovering you just mix the powder with some water you realise that the liquid dye is just the pre-mixed dye so you are paying for some water. And to top it they advise you to ruin an old towel when you do the final wash as the dye will still come out. Dylon is so much better.

First time dyeing clothes, but this worked brilliantly. Was originally a cream coloured skirt now turned the blue colour that matched the box. Some reviews were negative but you have to remember colour theory, otherwise the dye works as instructed on the packaging. Would buy again. I noticed a slightly discoloured patch on the front but I think thats my fault as I might not have stirred it as often as instructed, but its not noticeable at all to me when wearing it.

While its advertised to be Multi-Purpose I tried to dye a jacket, which hat motor oil stains, to blue I came to the realisation after recieving it that it wasnt all purpouse, it doesnt work on polyester. Yeah so I dyed it anyway and it came a light purple (the jacket was white originally) and the stains became darker. Overall a bit weird it doesnt specify it in the description that it doesnt work on some materials but hey thats life.

The chlorine in our water is constantly “bleaching” the color out of clothes. My son had a couple pairs of navy school shorts that looked more grey because of it. I used this (normally get the liquid) and his shorts look new again. It’s really easy to use and gives a good color saturation. I do recommend you wear gloves when using. I always end up with blue fingers. It washes off within a day usually.

Product works as advertised. I've personally used it to dye t-shirts, cotton shirts and pants. Product does stick to the fabric thoroughly. But on subsequent washes you are expected to loose some of the dye as it is to be expected. Personally, price is on the high end of the scale.
