The Body Book For Boys is complete with tips, quizzes, Q&As, and all of the essential info boys need to know. Review: LOT OF GOOD INFORMATION - The book covers quite a bit for a child. I purchased it for my 11 year old son who just recently began asking puberty questions all of a sudden at the most odd times. As a divorced mother, I knew what to tell him about his body changing but being that I am not a man, I could not explain to him about certain feelings he was asking me about. I attempted to let him talk to a male family member but he was so embarrassed that he would not pay attention. With his first question, I was scheduling a doctor's appointment because I thought something was wrong. Before we could make it to that appointment, there came another question out of the blue and then I had an AH HAH moment and realized exactly what was going on. His lil body was changing. My baby is growing up....tears from mommie :-( The book is pretty detailed. When it arrived, I just gave it to him while I was cooking dinner. He flipped through the book and saw the sketches of the genitals and closed it! So, I told him we would read it together when I was done cooking. He left the kitchen & I thought he left the book. An hour later when dinner was done, I realized he had been reading the book the whole time. After dinner, he ran right back to his study and picked the book up again. He would not put it down. He read the entire book. Now.... this is a child that you have to take all toys away to make him read one chapter in a book. He read the entire book on his own and asked a few questions. THEN, in the oddest places, he would discuss things about the book! So, it held his attention and he learned a lot. He liked the illustrations and the writing is easily understandable for his age. My DAUGHTER began reading the book and now wants me to order the girl's book for her even though she is in high school and knows all about puberty. Interesting book. Review: A Single Mom's Friend - I bought this book for my 11 year old son after his yearly check up. He had already raised several questions about the changes he was going through and this visit brought even more. I'm a single mom with no brothers so had no points of reference for these discussions! I think I'd been "winging it" pretty good but I knew the questions would get more...challenging. His pediatrician had a book listed on the information she gave us but it went into certain aspects I didn't think he was quite ready for. We'd already had "the talk" and he was mostly wanting to know about the physical changes his body had begun to go through. We actually sat and flipped through the book together when it arrived. The layout is great for a preteen with drawings and bullet points and a few quizzes. He keeps the book in his room and has mentioned referring to it several times. We've even used it as a jumping off point for some interesting talks. He says he likes having it available for some of the more embarrassing questions. I feel comfortable knowing that he is getting practical information. I know it has eased his mind about some things he thought might be "weird" but now realize are very normal. If you're looking for a book that stays away from sex and may not follow your family's particular values, this one is great!

Perfect for my 10 year old!
This book is perfect for my fourth grade son. His school is doing FLE (family life education) where they are teaching the kids about puberty. I gave him this book ahead of time so he would be prepared. It's great because it does not go into "the act" and keeps the focus on puberty. I also like that it continually tells the reader that there is no one age where these things happen, but rather that everyone goes through puberty at different times/rates. It presents the material in an informative manner that doesn't embarrass the boy reading it.

Highly recommended reading for preteen boys!
Bought this for an 8 yr old boy, and it is very well done! It covers way more than just physical changes, touches on a lot of the emotional stuff that goes along with "the change". The book has created a kind of safe space for him to be curious but not embarrassed about puberty. Highly recommend!

A+ book for 11 year old boys.
This book was purchased along with another for our 11 year old son finishing up elementary school. We wanted to start the learning process of hygiene, sleep, diet and body changes before "the talk". This is the perfect book for that. Nothing was mentioned about love or sex, just changes boys go through. Adam's apple, stinky armpits, clumsiness, and of course, zits. Great book to get some things across and also open up some dialogue between you and your son. Good luck!

Son seemed to appreciate
Great book to teach your son about the science and what to expect with their body parts for puberty. One chapter on the "private parts", but it uses real anatomy names and keeps it "light." Explains what an erection is, but does not go into masturbation or sex for example. This book was exactly what we wanted, something to use as a supplement for what we will explain to him on those topics personally. Talks a lot about other body changes and general hygiene in a humorous, but effective way. Great illustrations too!

A bit on the body-shame-y side
The information in this book is great...for the most part. I liked the set-up of the book and that the information wasn't *too* adult for a pre-teen. However, the parts on body image and healthy habits gets rather preachy and body-shame-y. Many pre-teens and teens tend to gain weight, get a bit chubby, and then shoot up. This book (unlike some of the others I got) makes all this sound completely abnormal, when, in reality, this is a fairly normal part of human development for boys and girls. The book relies on the BMI scale to judge health. Not only this, but at a time when these kids are feeling such turmoil and uncertainty about their bodies, is now the time to start shaming them for being "fat"? I much preferred the American Medical Association's book for boys. They, too, have a chapter on body image and healthy habits, but the information is factual and reminds boys that their bodies will change rapidly over the next few years.

Body odors, body developement, brain functions, etc
I've read this book(mom) but my son(11) can't bring himself to open it. I thought it covered the topics that, as a mom, might be too embarrassing for my son to talk to me about. I had thoughts on topics I should be discussing with my son before I bought this book. It has the answers for him as well as when he needs to talk to an adult about some issues. It does not talk about sex(GOOD.) It does show boys developmental stages(OK shows that it is normal.) Great book!

Great book explaining boys' body changes in matter of fact way
This is a great little book packed with 'growing up' information which is presented in a clear uncomplicated way that parents, their sons and daughters can understand. I bought this book to prepare myself for questions my grandsons might ask. It's what I call a 'matter of fact' type of book.

Good book for boys
Brought this for my 11 yr old who had started asking lots of questions about changes to his body. Visuallly the book is written in a nice clear but funky looking way which appeals to this age group. Covers lots of subject matters in a very sensible way. Sort of book you can read together or if they prefere to read alone gives them lots of good advice on subjects they might not feel they can easily dicuss.

this book is great as it shows boys the most basic things they ...
Just what I needed to try and persuade my mucky little boy to attend to his personal hygiene, and that its not normal to have the same pair of socks on until they grow fungus! Seriously though, this book is great as it shows boys the most basic things they need to know about their personal hygiene, and things like how to use hair gel and brush their teeth etc.Would highly recommend.

Great conversation starter
Got this for my son. He read it and we had a great conversation. It's not the whole package but perfect as a starting off point for these kinds of conversations.
