Doll House: A Psychological Horror Thriller: 1 : Hunt, John: desertcart.co.uk: Books Review: Must read - Fantastic read. Did not want to put the book down. It is a bit gory in places though and to be honest I’ve been scared at night a couple of times after thinking how violent some individuals can be towards others but definitely a must read. Review: A well written, but dark crime thriller. - Olivia has just moved away from home to start college when she's abducted. What follows is imprisonment in a 'doll house.' So labelled because it's decorated and furnished in pink, and it's captives are seen as dolls to play with. I've read a lot of dark fiction that covers topics including kidnap, violence, torture and rape, but some scenes in this book made me wince. They didn't seem used just for their shock factor, they showed the evil nature of the captors, and how Olivia's determination to escape kept her from giving up completely. Some parts are hard to read though. Overall the story flows well and Olivia is a likeable and brave character. Some small parts seemed a bit repetitive, but the plot was interesting so I kept reading. And, because you can't beat a great fictional dog, a special mention has to go to Brutus, Olivia's dog who has a very important part to play in the story.

A fantastic read . I have already purchased the 2nd book "Olivia"
The book proved to be quite captivating, and I found myself thoroughly engrossed in its narrative. The storyline was truly suspenseful. I was disappointed when I reached the end and am eagerly anticipating the opportunity to read the second book. I have already purchased it and plan to begin reading it this evening.

Where is Dexter Morgan when you need him?!
On the night Olivia moves into her college dorm, she is taken off the street by two masked men; The Jackal and the Gorilla. She is placed in a room which is little more than a cell. A pink cell. *shudders* A room made for a doll. She is now part of their collection. As you can probably tell from the blurb, this book is not for the squeamish which I can be sometimes. I picked this book as the description caught my attention and I read it over several days. This is a VERY v******t and gory horror novel. Hunt did a brilliant job of creating a strong and vulnerable leading female character, Olivia who experiences unbelievable cruel things and manages to fight among everything against, including limbs being taken away. *shudders* you see, I told you it was gory. Hunt also managed to bring out my hatred for the Gorilla man and the Jackal, as I was sitting and reading, I wanted Dexter Morgan to spring and take them both out. They'd be on his k**l list for sure. Readers with sensitive stomachs will need to be careful if they are going to give this one a try. Whether you think trigger warnings are appropriate for books or not, scenes of s****l v*****e, r**e and references to c*********m is included. There were moments where I felt the story dragged on and there were confusing sections where the characters inner thoughts wrapped in with the third person narrative. In most of the novels I've read, intimate thoughts are normally written in italics. In this they were written in the standard text which confused me and I had to reread the sentences, sending me out of the story. Overall, it was a thrilling read and it put me off eating for a while. Ha. Looking forward to the sequel, OLIVIA coming out next year. Well done Mr Hunt!

Excellent, tension filled thriller!
I'd never heard of this author, but I thought the book sounded interesting and it certainly was. It was at times extremely violent and gruesome, when the girls were being kept hostage, and I felt slightly uncomfortable reading those scenes, though they were necessary for the rest of the book. It moved along at a very fast pace and the character development, especially of the main character, Olivia, was really well written and well done. She was a fantastic character, intelligent and resourceful. The book moves along at a really quick pace and even though there are elements of horror and shocking torture, I'd say this novel was in the psychological thriller category. Especially with how it deals with the ways the different girls cope with the aftermath of being kidnapped, tortured and dealing with their lives afterwards and how their friends and family cope without them and when they return is interesting. I'd recommend this to thriller, horror and psychological-thriller fans. A really excellent written book by an author who keeps you guessing to who the killer is to the end, with nearly all the male character's surrounding Olivia being the murderous, evil, "Jackel" - who is truly scary. Through your mind, the author keeps the audience and tension amped right up all the way throughout to the terrifying final fight. No easy task. Great book with great characters. Highly recommended.

Good read
I really enjoyed this book. Not at all what I thought it would be. Author makes female lead believable and as a reader you become invested in her story.

doll house
Very gory! But keeps you guessing to the very end. A real page turner. I would definitely recommend reading it.

It honestly feels like the author didn't put much effort into the writing itself. Not saying it's bad, but it's not something I'd enjoy reading. Sorry, but I couldn't finish it.

John Hunt kept me on the edge of my seat with Doll House. Extremely suspenseful and graphic. This novel should go down as a classic in the horror genre. I would love to see this made into a movie.

Oh my goodness! I could not put this book down! I was hooked right from the very beginning. I loved that the plot wasn't silly or unrealistic- stuff like this would unfortunately be happening all over the place. The Jackal and Gorilla were scary. I would love to hopefully oneday see a prequel from the perspective of the Jackal - what made him believe there was a connection between himself and Olivia? What made him decide to create the pink rooms and start taking girls? How did he and the Gorilla meet and how did the Gorilla become involved? I have so many questions!
