Dometic GasChecker GC 100: Gas Level Pen

Great little gadget! I use this at work to know when gas bottles are about to run out. It can give false negatives but never a false positive so its important to not just take the first reading as gosple. By taking a few readings on different sides of the bottle and gently playing with the angle of the pen to the bottle you soon get good results. But it doesn't work if the bottle starts freezing up ... which is only fair ... so you need to scrape the ice off to get to bare metal first if you're running the bottle hard! :)

Have never used this item before. I tried it at the weekend to show a friend, and it wouldn’t work properly: ie it showed red but never went green. I tried it on 3 different bottles, all full as l had only just bought them. Waste of money, don’t bother.

Seems to work ok so long as you adhere to the instructions.

Brilliant product on tall bottles or containers, not so good on small round ones.

A bit flaky. Sometimes gives a reading & sometimes doesn't. Useful for lack of anything better.

Very disappointed as it just didn't give reliable readings. Tested it on several gas cylinders, some known to be full and some known to be empty and some with unknown level of gas. Gave different readings each time! Full ones showed empty about 50% of the times I checked them. Returned and purchase refunded. Return and refund was very quick and smooth, just wished product had been reliable. Now purchased a Truma gas level indicator, which appears to be working and (as yet) hasn't given any false readings

I thought that this item would be very useful but it is proving to be unreliable and I fear that I have wasted my money. It gives no reading at all on known full gas cylinders and is intermittent at best on any cylinders I have tried it with. You would be better to invest in a pair of scales and weigh your cylinders to see how full they are e.g. a 6Kg cylinder will way approx double when full.

Testé sur 4 bouteilles de gaz d'âges et de marques différentes, les mesures sont constantes et efficaces. Attention, le principe de fonctionnement par écho ultrasonique requiert de prendre la mesure avec l'appareil bien perpendiculaire à la surface pour que l'ultrason émis traverse le cylindre de la bouteille sur son diamètre complet et rebondisse sur la paroi opposée pour revenir vers l'appareil. Si il y a une inclinaison tant sur le plan horizontal que vertical, il se peut que la mesure soit erronée ou impossible. La mesure est donc impossible tout en haut et tout en bas de la bouteille, là où elle est incurvée en son sommet ou à son fond. Ne peut pas fonctionner sur les bouteilles légères en matière synthétique ou en alu recouvert de matière synthétiques comme les "cubes" Butagaz. Je n'ai pas eu le cas mais il est logique que la lecture soit un peu erratique sur les bouteilles très, très rouillées à l'intérieur ou recouverte de multiples couches épaisses de peinture.
