Quality unit and very easy to use. Results good.
Now owned for 6 months I can fully recommend this blue ray burner. Easy to set up, just connect . I have now used regular and dual layer and Verbatim BD-R Blue ray 25 Gb discs with no problems whatsoever. Blue ray recognition of the LG by Sony Memories and Movavi and Windows Video suite have presented no issues. Very quiet in operation. Brushed satin look to taste but has quality look and feel. I can recommend fully.

First one was faulty. Replacement works fine.
Updated review:I did some tests. It had no problem accessing CD Audio or Bluray movies. I made some test benchmarks using the bluray 3D "I Frankenstein" movie. The drive had average transfer rate of 6x, with 3.5x initially and 8x maximum rate.I burned some files onto a DVD+RW disc using Windows Explorer. The files were wriitten correctly (no information of any error during burning). When I reinserted the disc and tried to view the just written files, the drive started to struggle accessing the disc. The blue LED indicator on the front panel of the drive was not lit nor blinking. The drive simply was idle and Windows was waiting for it. I connected a different burner (different make), to the same port which I used for the LG drive, and inserted the disc I burned with the LG one. The other drive had no problems accessing the disc, showing the files promptly with no hesitation.Returning it as it's FAULTY.-----------------Initial review:Despite this being advertised as an USB 3.0 drive, it is not recognized as such by Nero 2017 Burning Rom.Nero shows it as an USB 2.0 drive. I have Windows 10. I believe it is Nero's fault. Not a big deal as there are virtually no discs allowing you to write on them with such high speeds. The drive comes with an outdated Cyberlink Media Suite 10.The installation disc contains also a wee LG program called FastUSB. it installs an LG(?) home brewed driver which was intended to speed up USB transmission with the drive. I do not know what Windows version this program was intended for., I do not have it installed on my Windows 10. Also, you never know when Microsoft will render the driver installed by this software obsolete and unusable, if not already.I have not tested the drive thruoghly yet, therefore 4 stars for the outdated software package. I may change the score after additional tests. Millenium Disc is coming... BD-R XL too.

impressive cream and silver usb3 bluray writer
external equivalent of my 3 lg internal 16x bluray drives. Looks very impressive but might not suit every system: cream surround with silvery curved front. Depends on your 'today' price whether it is worth the extra over an internal unit. I mostly use internal drives but have various LG 12x bluray and dvdrom drives in external usb2 cases for netbook and laptops ( very plain-looking compared to this unit ) . Marginally outperforms my internal LG 16x drives.

Excellent unit, nice and quiet
Good unit - works well with iBook/iMac, both with Toast and Finder. So far tried SL BD and DL DVD M-discs

Unrelable.
Seriously started to question if there was a fault with my PC, but had no other issues with any USB-Connected device. Drive will not read audio-CD's correctly, will read some, some of the time otherwise just click away and freeze up device manager until the device is disconnected. Also randomly disconnects and reconnects to PC which has caused burn failures. Has to be the drive as reconnected my old external Plextor drive to complete the same tasks all went through with no issues whatsoever. The drive this caddy contains may be perfectly good, but there are certainly some gremlins in the works.

Faster than a speeding locomotive
If you are looking for a quick external Blu-Ray reader (and Writer) then this is fantastic. Its not pretty as the front is nice with the brushed ally effect but the rest is a cheap 90's looking cream plastic.Pure performance though was amazing, there is a downside which is the noise. It may be quiet when watching a disc as it slows down the spin but when it reads copying at full speed it sounds like a jet taking off which is why I had to return mine as it needs to be quiet. This is the only reason the drive did not get 5 stars so if its speed above all else then this is the drive for you.

Good solid full size external drive
Quick drive works well with USB 2 on an older iMac and even better on USB 3. Has its own power supply which helps it to run at the speeds indicated on its packaging. I like that it has a motorised tray - I find this easier than the flip lid on my old external Samsung drive. BTW unlike my old Samsung DVD drive this is not a compact unit. I got mine for £91 sometimes you see this listed for much higher prices.
