A miracle worker for your iron
We were on the point of throwing our iron out and buying a new one because the plate had become black with burnt on gunge and it was no longer gliding smoothly over the clothes. I saw this product on an American 'cleaning tips' site site and was pleased to find it on Amazon at what I think is a very reasonable price. To be honest, I doubted whether it would make any difference at all to the iron but thought that for the price it was worth giving it a try.I followed the instructions and squeezed a small amount of the cream onto an old terry tea towel, made sure the iron was very hot and then 'ironed' the tea towel in small circular motions. I was totally amazed that just with the one application it removed a lot of the black burnt-on stuff. I had to repeat this four or five times and used half of the tube of cream, but it did leave the plate very clean. It did not take a lot of effort - just firm pressure - but there was a bit of smoke and a slightly unpleasant odour. It doesn't return the iron to a new state, but it has prolonged its life and saved a lot of money in the process. We have since bought another 2 tubes so that we won't run out. This is one product that I can highly recommend

Glad i tried it. Definitely recommended.
Being a sewer and enjoy making bag, this often means i use fusible interfacing and it is inevitable that at times, the adhesive from this goes onto my iron as in this case as per photo. In the before image, i had on previous occasions tried cleaning the iron with rubbing over with a paracetamol; this had been ok but couldn't remove all the 'baked on' remains. I heated my iron for a minute or so on the cotton setting to make sure it was hot enough then after switching off, i applied the cream onto a thick Towelling flannel and as advised rubbed the iron over with circular motions and then removed with a dry cotton cloth. As you can see, the iron plate now looks almost new again...however, the cream didn't remove some of the baked on glue on the outer edges and initially i thought it was because the ceramic coating had come off. I thought to try 'carefully' rubbing these parts with the flat end of a wooden cuticle stick from which these bits simply came away as in the end it was dried on adhesive.I am pleased with the overall result but it took a bit of effort and use of the stick...and quite a bit of the cream. I had to keep reapplying the cream and ended up using half a tube. It states in the instructions to use after each use of the iron...this would work out very expensive. Also, i guess it depends on the surface of your iron plate...mine is ceramic and i thought it would make it easier to remove the residue but considering my iron wasn't really too bad to start with...it took a bit of effort. I think the worse your iron, the more effective this cream would be.Be prepared for the 'smoke'...It wasn't until i had to go out of the room that i noticed it had actually not just stayed in the room i was in but had gone into other rooms...it wasn't a thick smoke but more a vapour like smoke but it still surprised me. The smell of the cream when applying to the hot iron reminded me of a Brillo pad smell...really quite similar and didn't really stay around too long.Overall...although being that my iron wasn't too bad to start with (but didn't glide like it used to) and it wasn't just a simple wiping, i am very glad i tried it and my iron now (until i mess it up again) glides like new again and looks and feels very clean. I was worried that being ceramic that it would be damaged but it is not at all. Definitely recommended...just be prepared to use plenty and for the smoke.

good but not that good.
bought this from reading all the reviews but i have to say it does work but not as well as i read used the whole tube just on one iron i had three to clean so if you've got one iron it should do the trick but bit disappointed i couldn't clean the other two and wasn't prepared to pay nearly £16 for 3 tubes. it does take some effort to clean it doesn't take any build up straight off i had to give it some serious hand action to remove anything and had to keep using the tube until soleplate was clean and my iron is fairly new and there wasn't a huge amount of buildup on it. iron is now clean and shiny like new but it'll get very expensive if you have to keep buying a tube just to clean your iron once. it does work that's the main thing maybe it was just my iron but worth a try if you've tried other products and they never worked.

A 10-Star Product!
It's not often a product lives up to its hype, but this iron soleplate cleaner surely does! I thought it a bit pricey at £10, and admittedly it is. But it works quickly and easily, and doesn't take much to do the job. I was just about at the point of giving up and buying a new iron (I have a state-of-the-art, but old, Rowenta and really can't afford a new high-quality iron) when I thought I'd give "Faultless Iron Cleaner" a go. I expected I'd have to return it and ask for a refund; instead, I will be ordering more to keep my iron in tiptop condition. The soleplate was completely gunked up with old starch, hard-water stains, burnt-on residue, you name it, and so crusty I thought there was no way the soleplate could be restored. By golly, it looks - and glides - like new! If I could rate this iron cleaner higher than five stars, I would. On a sidenote: it arrived in a padded envelope, complete in original package* with clear instructions. Delivery was about two (working) days after I ordered it. So I give the Wirral Discount Supplies company top marks for prompt service, too. [*A different product I'd ordered from another company arrived with no package, no label, no instructions, and after that, I realize just how important instructions for something like this can be.]

I am SO pleased with and SO grateful for this product!
I just got this yesterday, cleaned my iron fairly easily, and was so happy with the results, I just had to leave a review right away! My iron was pretty gunked from fusible interfacing even though I run it over a dryer sheet after every fusing session. The most recent gunk, pretty much, gets removed from the dryer sheets, but they don't touch what has already been baked on. And brown spots transfer onto my fabric sometimes from that. So, anyway, with just two applications of gently rubbing my hot iron with a cotton cloth, rinsing well with a clean cotton cloth, that baked-on residue came right off! I was truly amazed! One warning that doesn't apparantly happen to everyone, is that the process set off my carbon monoxide detector and my smoke detector! After that, I did notice it was a little hazy in here, so I'm hoping all that wasn't harmful chemicals! After clearing the room to stop the incessant, ear-piercing shrieking, I decided I may as well clean the inside of my iron as well with distilled water and white vinegar. This is not new to my iron, and this never set off the alarms before, but they kept going off all the while I was trying to steam out the liquid! My iron is a Rowenta, as another person had the smoke alarm issue with their Rowenta. I have no idea about correlation! LOL!Anyway, I am highly recommending this product by saying it was so quick and easy to use, the gunk was removed completely, and it was well worth the price I paid for it! The spots that are showing on the "after" photo are water spots from cleaning the inside of the iron.
