MK dimmer switch
This MK dimmer switch does what it was intended to do - dim lights. Hubby is an electrician and he quickly switched over to this dimmer. He said MK is a trusted brand - number 1 in his opinion.I’ve found the dimmer works well - easy to adjust. I have not noticed any buzzing sound coming from the switch as previous reviews have noted. The price is a tad high but I feel a trusted brand is worth paying for in electrics.Recommended product.

Works but too clever
I know it is fiendishly complex to deliver a consistent variable charge to different brands of low-ampage LED bulbs with different resistances and so on. We have two probs with this switch: 1. probably sth to do with its fade-in that aims to reduce wear and tear on the LED, the first time we switch it on it never comes on, but always does after you switch it off but on again, and 2. the programmable lower end of the brightness range is slightly too bright for our LEDs, the aim of a dimmer switch is to be able to get pretty low. The older MK system where you can access (with some difficulty) a tiny screw to adjust the potentiometer manually worked better for us.

7 GU10 Led and it buzzed like an electric toothbrush
Don't buy this dimmer unless you are a qualified electrician. I bought one and fitted it to my bedside light with a new Philips 5.7 GU10 Led and it buzzed like an electric toothbrush. When I phoned MK to ask what LED would work with the dimmer the rep laughed out loud and said the question was too complicated to answer. Well, I have been using the same MK dimmer + tungsten bulb by my bedside light for 30 years. It works with a LED, without buzzing, but after a period in use stops dimming. After being brushed off on the phone I sent an email to MK Technical Support to see if it would reach a better person. No reply. So I re-sent it every day for a week. I then complained to another MK contact address, which prompted an email from MK Technical Support to say I should look at the bulb manufacturers' websites. I asked for links to them and after asking for the name of the respondent's line manager was given links to 4 web pages which did not mention LEDs. After a few more emails I managed to get the tech rep's supervisor. He said he was very sympathetic but could not help. So I asked for his line manager's contact details. He replied that he managed himself. I said I'd write to the CEO of MK to verify his independence and managed to get the name of a reportedly very busy man. By this time I had found a pair of Philips LED/Dimmer compatibility charts. Here they are[...]I sent them to the head of MK Technical Support, the same man who had sent his sympathy, and was told the Philips Compatibility Charts were a load of rubbish and the only solution is to employ a qualified electrician to advise on the choice of a suitable LED bulb for the MK Low Load Dimmer. Why do I bother? Because I have been using MK fittings for 30 years and plan to resume using them when the 'technical support' staff have been replaced. Since the department manager's advice (re looking at a LED supplier's websites) contradicts that of the man who supplied the web links, I am hoping one of them has been sacked already. MK belongs to Honeywell Controls who, I assume, will be as disgusted by the way I have been treated as I am.

Hummed
Used with 8 number Enlite DE8 LED units (total 64W). Dimmed OK but dimmer hummed- not what we expected. Better to use the Danlers DQDGDMK400W- totally quiet.

A modern replacement for a standard switch or older dimmer switch – choose your LED bulbs carefully
This dimmer switch carries the familiar MK brand logo but is actually made in Malaysia, rather than in MK's Essex factory – MK Electric has been a subsidiary of Honeywell since 2005. MK has been my brand of choice for household electrics for many years, and although their products generally cost a bit more you do get the quality you pay for with them. Early dimmer switches generally worked well with traditional light bulbs but were prone to buzzing if used with the new LED versions. The MK K1523WHILV dimmer switch is designed to overcome this buzzing problem when used with dimmable LED bulbs – but it is not entirely successful. This product comes packed in a familiar MK red and white box and includes fixing screws and instructions - if you are happy working on home electrical systems then this is an easy item to fit as a direct replacement for an existing dimmer switch or a standard switch. I had mixed results with this MK dimmer and although it worked quite well with branded LED bulbs from Philips and Osram it did buzz noticeably when using some cheaper Chinese LED bulbs. Currently around forty pounds from Amazon this MK K1523WHILV is a bit more expensive than some other brands, but it fits properly, it is well designed and nicely made so offers fair value at the price. This item is part of MK/Honeywell's Logic Plus range of home electrical products and is designed to match the other items - it will work well with traditional bulbs as well as with LEDs and gets four stars at the price.

Great
My dimmer switch did not want to work with my Philips LED bulb quietly.Any dimming created a buzzing sound. This however cured that. I fitted it and used it in conjunction with a philips dimmable led bulb and it works perfectly and quietly. Worth the etxra
