Can it be mounted on the back of a semi truck?

NO. The Playmaker model is meant to be a portable "set it out" type of unit, or it can be mounted on the roof of an RV. But it cannot take the shaking environment of a semi truck. Winegard makes the X1 model for trucks (Dish Network) and the G2+ model for trucks (DirecTV) and the in-motion D4 and T4 models can all be mounted on trucks using the DieselBoss bracket or the Winegard bracket.

I have not been there with it, nor have I been outside the Southeastern United States since I bought it. It works great here in South, Georgia. You should call Winegard, they make the Winegard PL7000R Dish Playmaker. Thay can answer all your questions. They were very helpful when I called before making my purchase.
