DEWALT 18V XR Brushless 125mm Flat Head Grinder, DCG405FN-XJ

Typical DeWalt quality—solidly built and very reliable. The brushless motor is noticeably more efficient than my old brushed models, and the electronic brake is incredibly fast (stops the disc in under 2 seconds). I also really appreciate the E-Clutch feature; it’s saved my wrists a few times when the disc pinched. It’s well-balanced, the slim body is easy to grip, and the power output is impressive for an 18V tool. Highly recommended.

Great grinder, with a narrow head gor tight spaces. I live the Dewalt gear & this is as good as they rest of the tools I have. I use it with the big flex volt 9ah battery & it lasts well. It's quite a power hungry tool, so if using it a lot, the bigger battery helps it keep going all day.

This is a replacement for a corded angle grinder and I must admit, I think it actually performs better than my old one. I’ve only used it a couple of times but it has come in to its own when not working near a plug socket in the garden. It is powerful, well balanced and has plenty of power. It feels more ergonomic in use than others and just feels like a quality bit of kit. The other thing I really like about this grinder is that it is significantly quieter that my old corded one which screamed when in use, I’m sure the neighbours appreciate that. That’s not an excuse not to wear the appropriate PPE though.

Soft start feature equates to no rotational kick on power-up. The easy, no-tool, guards, Types 1 & 2, are both solid, reassuring. Just powered up and went to work.

It's great not being restricted with a power cable however it does use up battery life pretty quick so would advise at least 2 x 4 or 5 ah batteries depending upon the size of the job your doing. Only used it once so far and cut through, and dressed a 400 x 250 x 3mm box section with no problems. The Wheel guard swivels to different positions and the wheel can be locked for changing, and overall its quite light even with a 5ah battery on the end.

I have never owned an angle grinder. But now I have one, and I can only describe this tool as a great addition to my existing collection of Dewalt tools. It looks good, feels good in the hands, is easy to control and, of course, works beautifully. I had spent an hour or so watching videos on YouTube for tips on how to sharpen lawnmower blades. So, shortly after delivery, I hurried down to my garage and within about 12 minutes I had sharpened all three blades on my ride on lawnmower. Fantastic, particularly as my local repair shop charges £25 a time to do the same. As such, I am going to save a great deal of money. A quick tip when fitting a recessed flap disc to the tool: make sure the correct side of the locking flange is screwed onto the disc. The locking flange should grip the disc and, therefore, the disc should not spin freely/loosely when the power is off. An angle grinder is such a versatile tool. With the right discs, it can grind, sand, polish, sharpen, and possible more, as I have yet to realise its full potential. If you purchase the flat head version (DCG405FN), as I did, you'll be able to work in restricted spaces. But, whatever model you choose, you'll never regret buying a Dewalt. Great buy, great price.

Having an almost exclusive 18v dewalt battery platform, I wanted to cut the cord on my trusty Makita 4.5” grinder and go cordless. The trouble with most of the smaller grinders is visibility when using the tool. The guard just seems to be in the way and on several occasions I’ve taken to removing it altogether to make it easier to work. Not ideal. Ensure you have your safety specs! This flathead variant is a huge step in the right direction. I can easily see what I’m cutting, grinding or sanding. It’s powerful, smooth and well balanced. I have a number of batteries so runtime is not really a concern. With the battery attached it’s quite long compared to a corded unit. However, I’ve not felt the need to reach for the smaller corded version thus far but it could happen in a really tight space. The hex key locking nut system works great compared to the traditional 2 pin spanner. You don’t need to go crazy tightening grinder discs. Never had one fly off yet! If you are invested in the dewalt battery platform and need a grinder, look no further than the flathead. I prefer The slightly larger 5inch discs which afford a slightly deeper cut. You can throw on the 4.5inch discs too so it’s win-win. I’m surprised other manufacturers haven’t followed dewalt’s lead and produced their own version. For that reason, this is ‘THE’ small grinder to own for the professional tradesman. Why would you buy anything else?!

High-quality angle grinder. Just note that some larger specialty discs might not fit this device, as it is rather low-profile.

best grinder ever. narrow head gets into tight spots. It has an on off switch not one of those stupid safety paddle switches the you have to keep holding down. I know they are "safer" but they suck. This is not an 9" grinder, It's not going to take your leg off maybe a finger. well you've got 10 so don't stress so much. Seriously good grinder.
