This product is a joy to use! Upgrading from a cheap Chinese-made digital meter, the experience is night and day different. The readings are quick, CONSISTENT, and super easy to read. I love that this doubles as a nutrient stir stick, and the no button/no switch design makes it effortless to use.Here's the difference between this product (commercial) and the standard truncheon: the commercial has a wider measurement range, from 0.4 EC to 6.0 EC. That's it. The standard truncheon goes from 0.2 EC to 3.6 EC. The standard model is fine for any hobbyist, but you may want the commercial if you are going to mix up nutrient liquid concentrates, and then add them to your nutrient reservoir through an automated measuring and dosing system.I purchased the commercial model because it was on sale for the same price as the standard model, and I thought "commercial" must equal "better." I probably don't need the increased range, but I have no regrets: it works perfectly fine for my purposes, and I can upgrade later to an automated dosing system if I choose.Whichever model you get, the Truncheon is absolutely worth the price of entry. It's so easy and intuitive, and cleanup is just a spritz of tap water or a dab with a towel. Nutrient testing is now my favorite part of the routine.

Flawless

Great for keeping reservoirs on point and plants happy. Sooooo easy to use no calibration required. Second time I have purchased, first one lasted over 12years and never failed, unfortunately it was broken during a move. Made extremely well and tough but couldn’t take the weight of a 22 foot fully loaded Penske truck.

After buying and returning a cheaper item, I am back to an awesome brand and an item I had used for years and that I trust to help me keep my Hydroponic systems in the correct range. This truncheon is super easy to use, instantly readable, durable, and accurate. The cheap alternative was not waterproof, didn’t read consistently, and failed completely in less than a week. The last truncheon I owned lasted 3 years of daily commercial use monitoring 6 high volume flow systems. Trust BlueLab, worth the extra money.

I seemed to have variations in my EC measurements in the beginning. I used a calibration fluid, which that or the Truncheon were suspect. . I contacted Bluelab twice, they answered promptly and they gave me some good advice. If you don't have the cleaning kit; which I don't, they advise plain old baking powder.Make a paste and give the electrodes a good cleaning . I used a piece of chamois on a plastic handle (non oily) They sold these to clean styus on analog record decks. I began to use the Truncheon with confidence.I have tested my tap water which comes out between EC .3 / .4 - Rain water doesn't conduct and shows nothing on the scale as it should. I am sure it is working fine now. The nutrient charts showing dilution and target EC values are in the 'ball park'.Initially one considers it expensive? however the guarantee period gives assurance and value.The Truncheon is very well made/manufactured so very durable and should last a long time.Conclussion: very good value and recommended

Best on the market for a hand held. Get one and you'll never regret it.

Best nutrient meter out there. Very tough it's always accurate and simple too use. Last for ages.

Ordered and received a faulty product, amazon sent a replacement the next day. Spoke with Bluelab directly as well they were very helpful. 10/10 tool, somewhat analogue, no need to worry or guess anymore!
