Great unit but tip corrodes very quickly
Best soldering iron I’ve used but like the title states the tips corrode very quickly! I’ve had irons before that don’t ignite properly, flimsy, have cheap plastic parts that are prone to breaking easily but the tips have always stood the test of time.Still I’d rather replace the tips than the unit itself which speaks volumes of this iron. Ignites instantly, you can solder within seconds, it’s very sturdy and compacts, takes very little gas yet lasts for ages, I hardly have to fill it up. 5 stars if it had better tips.

Works
Been a while since I had this mobile soldering iron, has been great when I need to be away from the shop to do stuff, puts out a lot of heat.

Excellent portable (gas) soldering iron
This purchase was for work use, I had previously bought one of these for home use (about 5 years ago); I was that happy with it.A butane refill seems to last quite awhile, it heats to soldering temp VERY quickly (seconds), and has a cover so it can be put back into it's travel case without taking to time to let it cool down first.Extremely handy to use when there is no electrical outlet handy... in fact, I use this Weller P2KC gas iron to actually *replace* my electric 120VAC iron in everyday use (although I keep it as a backup). Take care of the tip (keep it tinned, and tin the tip before you turn it off) and it will last almost forever. The only thing that you have to remember, that makes using this iron different than an electric iron, is that since it burns a gas (butane), that means that is also has to exhaust that hot, burnt gas, and it does a short distance from the soldering tip. The exhaust port is small, and it exhausts the hot gas in one direction only, so make sure that the exhaust hole DOES NOT point toward something close by that is heat-sensitive, such as plastic, paper-- or your skin! It will burn you if you're not careful. Just be mindful of where the tiny exhaust hole is, and you'll be fine; it's the price we pay for the portability we get using any gas-powered iron.Very highly recommended. I only nicked it one rating star because the temperature control is an adjustment knob at the back end of the iron, and the temp you get is just a guess; you'll have to play with it to find the best temperature that works for your needs. This Weller P2KC butane soldering iron is one of the few products I can easily give 4.5 - 5 stars. If either of mine break, I'll replace it with same, in a heartbeat.

I love this soldering iron
I love this soldering iron. It is easy to turn on, quick to heat up, and best of all I don't have to worry about accidentally melting the power cable! The iron is very easy to handle and about the perfect weight for tacking down a joint or just soldering loose “in-the-air” joints, which I end up doing a lot of in the car. The solder tip is not my favorite, though very easily replaceable. The tip that comes stock has a beveled flat end that is about an eighth inch long, too clumsy for delicate instruments, but good enough for my work. However, I would prefer a conical tip. Also, I don’t know if this is a pro or con yet, but the tip does not cool down very fast at all, in fact, sometimes the unit is so hot after I turn the gas off, that a minute later I can turn the gas flow back on and not have to relight the torch. A very nice feature is that the torch is completely contained, no open flame. And it is self-lighting, just a little slide button to click when it needs to be lit. According to the specs, when completely filled with butane, the torch will last for an hour of usage at maximum gas flow. And when I filled my torch with the $3.99 tank of butane, I probably used about 30-40% of the tank. That is FAR less expensive than batteries, which can’t heat an iron nearly as hot. Perfect for on the go, I highly recommend it to anyone who is looking for a lightweight soldering iron for hobby projects and repairs!
