Good Quality Amazing Piece of Kit!
If you love electronic projects/diy/soldering, then you should love this product. Excellent quality components and although the instructions are a little hard to follow, with a bit of focus it's relatively straightforward.Great stock animations and I shall look forward to programming my own.

Superb kit for practising
Love the kit... Easy enough to follow instructions. Good quality PCB, plentiful LED's. And great for practising your soldering skills. I've use about 60grams of 0.8mm solder (question that seems to pop up a lot).I'm buying the bigger version of this as soon as i can afford it as i am enjoying it a lot!You will have to be patient though as bending each LED by hand can get quite tedious. Also good tip... Take your time with bending them and do it as precise as possible... Same goes for soldering. It will safe you a lot of tweaking on later stages of your build :)

What an awesome project!
I wanted to make a 8x8x8 cube ever since I saw one many years ago, but was put off by the circuit board elements and buying the right parts etc, it just got put on my "to do" list. When I saw this, I got excited! It has enough elements to be a decent challenge to a complete novice, but it is absolutely doable, the Printed Circuit Board (PCB) has all the electronics already installed and all the components you need are supplied. You will need your own soldering equipment, but a cheap £10-15 kit will see you to the end of the project.A few tips that may be helpful along the way:The paper guide included is not orientated the same way as the video on YouTube, but do watch the video as it takes you through everything step by step, once you have watched; it the paper guide is all you need to follow.Test each layer as you complete it (using supplied wires and testing connections on the PCB)! Repairing connections once the cube is assembled is not very easy.I cut a 2.3cm strip out of the box it came in to use as a spacer when assembling the layers, it was helpful to keep everything neat.If you have bought the clear housing to put around it (sold separately, but definitely recommended) put the "feet" on before you fully solder the cube together as the LEDs make it a bit tricky to tighten. The cable that connects to the PC for programming had the jumpers in the wrong position, but if you follow the video and printed instructions, you will pick up any errors easily, as I did.Programming: This gave me a bit of a head-scratching moment (temporarily), between the videos not having a commentary and the printed instructions having been translated, you really do need to watch/read the instructions carefully, but all the information is there and one morning of concentration had me able to create and upload my own creations to my cube with ease. I used my Windows 10 laptop, you just need to make sure you download and install the DirectX9 software to allow it to work. The only other thing is that you can save your project, but the HEX file you need to upload to your cube is created by selecting File>Compile which creates an Output.Hex file that will have the time and date you created it in the file info, THIS is what you upload to the cube to launch your custom creations. All in all, I LOVED this project and am now eyeing up the 16x16x16 cube!

Excellent Project
The more time you take in assembling, the better the result. It's not a project to rush. If you get the multi-colour version, I'd strongly suggest working with only one colour at a time, and labelling each panel as you finish it. Make sure the eight LED panels are all working properly before final assembly. That said, the finished product gives a stunning display.

Brilliant if you want to improve your soldering and have a genuinely funky light at the end
Instructions are great and I've improved my soldering no end after this repetition - well over a thousand solder joints IIRC. Bought a decent solder station at last and this put it through it's paces ... and the end result has really impressed everyone in the house. Can thoroughly recommend. Who's the guy complaining about it not coming in a fancy gift box? Doh!

Fun, but can get a bit tedious
It's a good project, and prehaps my soldering skills aren't upto quite the level they used to be, but be prepared for lots of soldering.I struggled to get the legs of the leds to line up evenly, so ended up just running a strip of wire across each section, soldering the legs of the led to that, and then trimming the legs. It looks a bit neater IMOWhen it comes to custom patterns, the software lacks a decent UI, but if you follow the guide there should be enough to understand the process. For people saying you have to understand HEX I think there is some confusion, there are two programs needed. The first gives you a GUI to design your animations or "cartoons" as they are called, the second takes a compiled save from the first (displays it as hex) and allows you to flash the memory on the cube.

Excellent project
I purchased the blue version. I must admit, my soldering skills have improved considerably since doing this. It was a little frustrating at times but I found it so rewarding once finished and working. Took me just over 1 day to do. Would love to do the 16x16x16 version but it's a bit expensive so will have to wait and see.

Stunning Display
Follow the clear assembly instructions and learn to solder simple electronic components in a systematic way.Wait until dark to show off the stunning results of your handy work and the designers skill. You will need your own solder, soldering iron, patience and tools.Nice!
