From winning multiple Blues Music Awards to sharing stages and recordings with Bob Dylan, Van Morrison, Bruce Springsteen, Patti Smith, Willie Nelson, Lou Reed, Peter Gabriel, Merle Haggard, Keith Richards, Al Green, Ben Harper, Lucinda Williams, Steve Earle, Levon Helm, Rosanne Cash, Odetta, and The Jungle Brothers, The Holmes Brothers have seemingly done it all. Recently though, The Holmes Brothers confronted a stark reality when brother Wendell was diagnosed with cancer in 2008. Tight-knit on and off the stage, they found strength in their family, friendship and faith to overcome this setback. With Wendell's victory over the disease, the group emerged fully energized and inspired to create the deepest, most original, most satisfying album of their career. 'Feed My Soul', produced by their longtime friend and collaborator Joan Osborne, is an album born from this harrowing experience. The songs deal with friendship, loyalty, family, aging, illness, as well as politics and the current state of the world, while still maintaining the patented Holmes Brothers sense of humor. Mostly though, the album is about triumphing over adversity, overcoming obstacles and, ultimately, it is a declaration of the power and faith of a strong and devoted family. Great stuff
I have seen these guys - promoting this album - in concert as they were opening for Steve Windwood. They almost stole the show. Effective band, great mix of songs and genres, a really good CD that will make your mood improve on a dark day. They are smiling while playing and you can hear it. Give it a try, you won't regret it.

..sind sie, Soul Brothers, im wahrsten Sinne des Wortes! Wenn Sherman und Wendell Holmes, verstärkt durch Popsy Dixon`s Falsett, sämtliche Register ihrer Sangeskunst ziehen, wird`s einem unweigerlich warm um`s Herz. Man glaubt den Brüdern wovon sie singen. Authentizität heisst das Zauberwort - Ehrlichkeit, Hingabe, Inbrunst, das Innerste nach außen gekehrt - eben Soul! Wenn das Trio - von dezentem Backgroundgesang unterstützt - Wendell Holmes "Fair Weather Friend" anstimmt, erfährt der inflationäre, vielstrapazierte Begriff "Gänsehauteffekt" eine verdiente, 4.03 minütige Rehabilitierung. Hier laufen die Brothers zur Höchstform auf. Bei "Pledging my Love", der oft reproduzierten 54er Schmonzette, stellt die, von Kalibern wie Johnny Ace, Solomon Burke und Aaron Neville gelegte Latte, kein Hindernis dar. Grandios das Finale "Take me away", der ultimative Himmelfahrts-Soundtrack! Für partiell zu einfach gestrickte Arrangements, wäre eigentlich ein halber Punkt Abzug fällig - nachdem dies nicht möglich ist, wird "im Zweifelsfall für den Angeklagten entschieden"!

I've rated this the max of 5 stars - would like to rate it 6! I've been a Holmes Bros. fan for awhile and have most of their volume of work which contains lots of good stuff BUT this release "Feed My Soul" outshines everything that has come before. When is the last time you bought an album and ALL the songs were great? This is your chance. The mix of tunes here is perfect - fast, slow, sad, happy. I don't know why this effort is so good though one factor may be that it was produced by Joan Osbourne. I have played this one for friends who had no idea who the Holmes Bros. were and had never heard them before. The reactions were incredibly positive so there are new fans being prepped. Hopefully, a listen to this collection of songs will get people to work back into all the rest. However, if you own only one Holmes Bros. creation, it should be this one.

La verdad es que el disco es fabuloso desde la primera a la última canción. Totalmente recomendable para los amantes del género.

die alten herren machen es vor: so hört sich feinster blues und soul an. man merkt deutlich wieviel spaß es den drei akteuren macht. die eigenen songs sind genauso phantastisch wie die sehr interessanten interpretationen der coversongs. weiter so!
