Works good after adjustments.
A good spring hinging solution for round fence posts and gates for the money. The spring tension can be increased by sliding the bar through the top or bottom bracket (don't install the bar fastener on that end). Some cheap gate hinges have too much friction caused by poor hinge fit and will inhibit your spring from automatically closing your gate. The problem is the hinge and not this spring. Works great after replacing the hinge pin receptor bracket. Recommend.

I love it
If I could give 10 stars I would. We have a very lazy mail carrier that comes to my home. She will open the gate and walk out and not latch it,,,not even close it. Leave it wide open. Not now!!! That gate is swinging CLOSED!

Worked a couple times, then it stopped working
Kept getting loose and would not help the gate shut on its own. Worked a couple of times and then it loosened enough that it no longer worked. I orderedd a spring-based one to replace it and that works like a charm. Wish I would have known in time to return my order. Waste of money

It works but perhaps with a little modification
I'll give it a three start because although it worked in my case, it did require a some modification. First, I think the price is a little too high for a bar and a few clamps. I did buy it as refurbished, so I saved some money from the original price. If it'd have included other clamps size options, perhaps the high price could've been justified.. Installation, for the most part is simple; make sure your gate is close before position the bar and attaching it with the clamps provided. My gate and the fence post where the bar is mounted have a smaller diameter than the require gate closure requirements. I simply drilled holes through the gate opener clamps and through the posts...gate and fence posts...and inserted two #14 sheet metal screws. This holds the clamps in place, preventing then from rotating when the gate is opened. I saw at least on post where an user complained about the clamps' bolts loosening, causing the clamps to rotate. Rotation of the clamps can easily be prevented by drilling holes through the clamps and inserting a screws. I did notice some surface rust after just two days of installation. Not sure how rust will affect its operation, but I'll keep my eye on it.

It works. It would work better paired with a self closing latch.
I got this to use on the gate between my backyard and a salt marsh behind it. I have young kids and a dog so I prefer the gate to be kept closed. Installation was pretty simple. Just install the brackets on both poles and insert the bar between them. The only tricky thing is tightening both sides of the clamps with the gate closed. This thing claims to be for doors also but unless your door is made from fence poles this won't work. One bracket fits the diameter of an end post and the other fits the diameter of a gate pole. I can't remember the dimensions off the top of my head but my fence and gate are standard so whatever those are. It works well, but doesn't work like a normal door closer. When the gate is almost all the way closed this has barely any tension so it isn't good for holding a gate totally closed. This is where I wish I had the butterfly style latch and I will probably end up getting one. If you open the gate and walk through, there is plenty of closing tension to close it and latch it that way. The instructions tell you to adjust the lower bracket up and down to adjust tension. I have not played with that yet but I think the closer the two brackets are together the more tension there should be.

Keeps Gate Closed
Helps to keep our gate closed but will need to be re-tightened periodically, as it looses tension over time. This is being used for a metal gate.

Tension bar twisted after 1st use
The spring bar gets twisted after one time of opening the gate. Haven't even opened the gate 90 deg. Plus I have it set at the very least amount of tension. The lowest. Would buy a better quality brand made in USA if I was going to buy again.

Great for toddlers/dogs at the house
We got a set of these because we have toddlers at home that are now tall enough to open the fence and the dog kept getting loose. These were the perfect solution!

This does not work. The steel bar is way, way too thick (1/8 inch ) to bend. It does not shut the door automatically, it just prevent it from opening.

The install went well. Hardware (nuts & bolts provided) is about the lowest quality metal possible but it's holding together. It actually closes the gate. Happy with my purchase. Will see how it holds up in the long run.

The brackets are too large for our standard canadian fence, but if you can make a shim fit, it does what it's intended to do. However the spring is so stiff it does make it harder to open the gate fully, and eventually the bracket spins and then if the gate isn't pulled shut it remains half way open.

Simple to install, although the metal bolt was stripped, I had to go buy a new one so I could install it
