Does what it needs to
Standard nautical nav plotter. You can spin the center part around to have the variation so you don't have to do the math in your head. The only thing slightly confusing is that it would appear to me that the variation scale is labeled exactly backward, but if you think about it, it's easy to set it right.

Misaligned and paint seemed likely to wear quickly
Wanted to love it but couldn't. It may have been a fluke, but mine arrived with a misaligned washer that tipped the rotating dial away from the baseplate and skewed course/bearing readings. I may have been able to fix it, but that shouldn't be necessary and I don't know that it would stay aligned. Given its size, heavy weight, and the spotty state of the paint on a new plotter, I returned it and found a better lexan option from an aviation shop.

Educate your Assemblers
Received over-priced product assembled backwards. If I were someone new and just learning Im sure this would create alot of unnecessary confusion. How hard is it to screw on one part the correct way?!!!

I use these in teaching Nav and they are great. Big and solid.

Appears well built, but the long edge measurement scales are both in inches. The metric scale is only on the thin edges. Realistically the two edges should have one side metric and the other side as inches.

I was disturbed by the listed price for this Liquidraw Portland Plotter. While half the price of another one, it struck me as excessive "for a piece of plastic". I already owned one which was yellowing and scuffed up. It was made out of soft rather flimsy plastic. When the Liquidraw arrived I immediately saw the difference. THICK, CRYSTAL CLEAR acrylic. I big solid central pivot, The material must be triple the thickness of my original. This will last a lifetime. Well worth the price.

Quality not sufficient for the price. It lacks cross hairs under the rotating dial and the hole was drilled slightly off centre. Okay for quick measurements but my original Portland chart plotter is better made and more accurate. This also uses a washer to separate the rotating dial, so it sits up and rocks which again isn't as nice as the original branded version. The centre screw and nut can also separate so you can eventually lose the knurled nut.
