Would the 2 way plug be okay for a microwave and a toaster?

Its not ideal, ideally each should connect to its own wall socket. However, the short answer is yes, but don't use both continuously at the same time. A better answer can be worked out by adding up the power rating of your toaster and microwave - which should be on a label somewhere. If they quite a current rating, then A 13A socket is rated to give 13 Amps so the total of the current rating of the devices should be less than 13 Amps. If the devices give a power rating in Watts, the total of the power rating should be less than 3000W = 3KW. hope that helps

I'm not a fire safety officer, but to me the this point is somewhat irrelevant. The plugs of whatever are plugged into the 2 Way block plug have fuses that will blow in the case that that item e.g. suffers a short circuit. It could be dangerous if one plugged in additional multi plug sockets to these two - and then overloaded with many power hungry appliances... but what idiot would do that?

You could but it would depend on the devices connected to the extension units. I would not recommend ovetloading the plug therefore on balance suggest not.
