A great set that covers all sizes
Its great to have a set where it is easy to change the centre cutter, take care with the main cutter it is sharp and fast. Best to feed this in slowly or it will rip out the end grain of your blank.

It works as expected
Obviously the cost put me off for a long time but I finally decided to go for it as I get through a lot of fixed cutters. I have tried to sharpen them but not with good results.First impressions are it is well made and I can find no fault with it. The image is my first attempt and I am very pleased with it. This was with the drill at 1080 rpm and I think it will be even better with the drill running even slower. You do need to take your time and do not try to rush it, the wood came off in shavings which is a good sign and due to the speed and only 2 cutters you can see the brass tube appear as it gets to it.There are a couple of downsides to it, if you do pens with 8 or 8.5mm tubes (which most of mine are) you will need to make a sleeve as unfortunately there is no pilot for these sizes. Luckily I have a metal lathe as well. There is an "O" size but that is just very slightly too big for the 8mm.You can get spare cutters from Amazon but it would be nice if O'SKOOL advertised / sold these so you know you they are going to fit. On the subject of the cutters, I have seen some where the faces are numbered so you know when you do have to rotate them they are all the same.

Brilliant
So much better than the basic ones I have used. Worth paying the extra money for as they trim down the planks so easily.

Buy it - Use it (Correctly)
I've been turning pens for over 8 years. This trimmer is brilliant. I've trimmed well over 50 pen blanks with this cutter, wood, acrylic, and wood and acrylic combos. Mount the bank in your drill press and GO SLOW ! If you push it into your blank hard and fast it will tear it up, it's very sharp and catches. This little trimmer is light years ahead of the original HSS trimmers, plus when the cutters dull (I'm guessing at some point they will) simply unscrew and rotate. Well worth the couple buck extra.

Well made but must be used in a Drill Press
Overall the construction is very good. The carbide cutters are extremely sharp and placed accurately. The shafts are machined to the correct sizes and the tip bores are also sharp. They do a great job cleaning out the inside of the brass tubes. My only problem with it is a design issue. Being that it only has to cutters for blank trimming, as opposed to the normal 4, it chatters severely. So much that you cannot use it with a hand drill. If you do you wind up with a wavy end on the blank, not the clean, flat edge you bought this tool to create. After I locked it and the blank in my drill press, it cuts like a dream. A standard 4 cutter HSS cutter works much better in a hand drill. If you use your drill press for squaring blanks, it’s awesome. If a hand drill, find one with 4 cutters on the head.

Like this barrel trimmer
The media could not be loaded. Don't try to free-hand using a hand drill. Follow the instructions and use a drill press. Mine is set at 620rpm. Set it in the vice loosely, run the trimmer through to straighten up the stock, tighten the vice and take it slow.

While it sounds like a great idea using carbide to square off wood........
While it sounds like a great idea using carbide to square off wood.... I used this product for pen blanks. When using this product it will shred your brass tube making it unusable. Use with caution.
