Nice little tweak.
Notable improvement in my modest system.Cheap as chips and well worth the modest sum spent.Nice and tight, improved detail within the mid band with increased stereo focus and sound stage. My macs audio output is pretty good already but in my opinion this little plastic matchbox is well worth a try and if you can't hear an improvement there is no need to cry over crazy audiophile DAC prices and promises you might have otherwise invested in. Going to buy the U2 asynchronous version for my main hifi..as a bit of an experiment..I am so grateful for these economical audiophile tweaks,we all can't afford the expensive hifi in a nice box..after all its all about the music.

Good value. Great dac.
Great! I have this hooked up to a decent amp and speakers. To my ears it is a good dac.

Cheap, but no better than my Mac's built in DAC imho
I bought this more out of curiosity than need. I found out about it via some audio production related discussions on gearslutz. It was cheap enough to take a punt. My plan was to use it with a 2012 Mac Mini to see if there was any improvement. I have always been very happy with the default headphone output of the Mac Mini driving my Sennheiser HD650 open back headphones. Using this unit I found there to be NO discernible difference, in fact it did not appear quite as 'transparent' as the Mac Mini's built in DAC. It really did not sound any better to my ears. I was surprised, but generally these differences can be extremely subtle where DACs are concerned. In this case too subtle for it to be worth taking up a USB port on the Mac. HOWEVER, using it with a two Dell Laptops (Lattitude 5530 & an old netbook) and an HP desktop PC, it definitely improved the output from those devices from my listening tests with my HD650's. It is always difficult to be completely objective without blind A/B listening tests to be 100% confident of any improvement. I can only assume much cheaper audio components are used and/or there is more internal electrical noise in those products as there was a noticeable improvement in mid-range, soundstage, stereo imaging, etc. So, your mileage may vary!! For me, not worth it for its intended use and it is being given to my brother to use with his old laptop. He is very happy with the improvement.. hopefully it will last.

Great for the price, but has its downsides.
Great DAC for the money, that is a definite yes, sound quality is very good, sound stage is pretty wide, considering the performance of this DAC, mids could've been a bit more forward for my taste, and they wash together with the highs, that in no way is a bad thing, it's just my opinion. For 32 ohm beyerdynamics the bass could not be delivered by the DAC alone, it simply does not have the power to push clear and tight bass, it's underpowered, but still there. Overall, great product for the price, and combined with a good AMP is a nice purchase!

Used with an O2 Joggler with SqueezePlay installed and set to external sound, this DAC works a real treat. Together with the Joggler, from eBay, the total cost was less than £75, this setup will outplay many streaming music players at ten times the price. EXCELLENT.

Unless you need the optical function don't bother.
I owned one of these some years ago and it was really good however the sound quality is awful from this unit in comparison to their older version which is very disappointing the older version fell apart - the only reason I purchased it was to go optical out from my iPad and it works well for that purpose albeit only at 96k - I think hifidiy need to look at the design of this device because as a Dac the SQ fails horribly indeed.
