Perfect for fixing a broken guitar headstock
I got this to help repair a guitar headstock that had broken in two - it was not a clean break, but had lots of jagged bits of wood and lacquered topsheet. Applying the glue was easy, plus the fact this is a water soluble wood glue means it can be washed off your hands once you're done applying it. (hence no stars for water resistance... not a relevant property for this item!). Guitar is back to normal - took 2 sets of tunes for the strings and newly bonded wood to "settle" and hold tune, but it's humming along well now. Do recommend using clamps to hold the joint steady for 24 hrs for a strong bond.

The best hide glue to use
If you use hide glue infrequently or don't want the faff of a hot glue pot this is the glue to use. I've used it over the years on violins, cellos and double basses and it is fantastic stuff giving a near original quality glue joint whether repairing damage or rebuilding an instrument. The latest was a longcase clock case which was in need of restoration and this I felt was the most appropriate adhesive to use. Tip: To make the glue flow better, put the bottle in a jug of hot water five minutes before use and it goes quite a bit more liquid, this makes getting a good even coverage very easy and it soaks into the wood structure better to give a super strong joint.

THIS IS TRADITIONAL GLUE WITH ITS LIMITATIONS AND CAPABILITIES
This is ideal for the woodwork it was used on - antique restoration and soluble in alcohols. did what was intended and i now have a beautiful restored three leg table which in my gran's and then parent's house always had a wonkey leg - this AND modern screw technology made restoration practical.

Useful when making repairs to antique furniture.
Useful for joining antique furniture as broken part can be easily removed again if necessary and then refixed.

Expired product. Batch A251001058 produced in May 2022 (at best) or May 2012.
Gemini Refund request for expired and defective product - Titebond Liquíd Hide Glue "I am requesting a full refund for this item as it is significantly past its shelf life and no longer functional. Technical Analysis of the Batch Code (A251001058): According to Franklin International's (Titebond) official dating system: 'A' stands for the manufacturing plant (Columbus, Ohio). '2' represents the last digit of the year of manufacture. 5' represents the month (May), "10' represents the day. Given that Titebond operates on a 10-year coding cycle, this bottle was produced in May 2022 (at best) or May 2012. The Problem: Titebond Liquid Hide Glue has a strictly defined 24-month shelf life. Since we are currently in April 2026, this product is at least two years out of date. The chemical urea additives, which are supposed to keep the glue liquid and reversible, have completely degraded. The glue has 'gelled' permanently inside the bottle. I have attempted to heat the bottle as per the instructions, but the structure remains rubbery and does not liquefy. It cannot penetrate wood fibres and is therefore unusable for woodworking. As the product sold is expired and defective, I expect a full refund without being charged for return shipping."

Reminds me of very old days when such a perfect glue used to be common...

Great glue when you need a long open time or reversiblity (hot water plus a touch of vinegar will liquify it again). Be aware - liquid hide glue has a shelf life! Manufacturer states two years, in the right conditions you can get more. If you're unsure there are a few tests you can do: Put a dab of glue between your fingers then slowly open then - it should be spidery. Spread some glue on a piece of paper and let it dry, then try to bend it - it should crackle. The best test IMO though is to glue two pieces of wood together, let it cure overnight then try to break them apart. If the wood tears apart the glue is still good. If it just separates the glue isn't strong enough. Not worth ruining a project for a bottle of glue, buy new when in doubt and write the date you got it on the bottle.
