Buy Respect: A raw, gritty drama you won't put down by Heller, Mandasue from desertcart's Fiction Books Store. Everyday low prices on a huge range of new releases and classic fiction. Review: Very good book - I loved this book I read it in a few days. Never wanted to put it down. Great story. Can't wait to read another one if her books . Review: Respect - This book was better than I expected, although I have to say I rolled my eyes alot from 85% onwards. As with most of Mandasue's books, it's set on a grim estate. There is the awful, neglectful, drug addicted parent (Mary) and the children (Chantelle and Leon). Chantelle starts off as 14 but turns 16 within a few weeks?? Also Leon starts off as 8 but turns 10 within a few weeks. Hmmm. Mary runs off to Spain leaving the kids to fend for themselves. There are the usual drug dealing gangs, whose accents and way of speaking are just cringe. Chantelle seems very sensible but is very naive around men. Chantelle finds a job with a PI which of course leads to trouble that involves Leon and they require rescuing. I really enjoyed the book until then as the ending was a little far-fetched and boring. Also left alot of unanswered questions. Definitely recommend.

A must read you won't put down
I enjoyed this book from beginning to the end , two young kids had a terrible mother But they both had each other, no children should go through what they had to go through, the title is true its all about respect !

What happened to Heller's usual storytelling skills??
This is a good story in as much as it keeps you entertained and curious as to what happens next. However, this latest book lacks the usual bite of Mandasue Heller's books. The overall impression is that this story has been written by a 15yr old trying to imitate Heller's usual style, and failing. Whilst this IS worth a read, don't be expecting the usual high standard and gritty storyline, and the conclusion is totally naff. Regular Heller fans will be a bit disappointed

Another great read . . .
Mandasue is in her own league. I always thought she ran behind Martina Cole, then on par with her but now she furlongs ahead. This is another great read, she never fails to deliver. She certainly knows how to make the reader keep hold of that book and read into the small hours. I can't wait for the next one now. Well done, Mandasue.

Fast paced and gripping
I do agree with the other reviewers that this is not quite in the same vein as the author's other novels and I admit I was put off by the first few pages and the negative reviews. However, a few pages in, I was gripped and had to keep reading until I'd finished (which meant I stayed up very late!!) I think that maybe the use of younger characters has put some people off, but I thought every character was well drawn and although there were a lot of minor characters involved, I felt that this added to the story and brought the book to life. Can't wait to read more of Mandasue Heller's novels!
