An essential book for anything FinOps (cloud cost management)
I have been doing large-scale cloud cost management for the past 10 years, and cannot recommend this book highly enough. It is a true "bible" of FinOps essential for anyone starting with the practice or thinking to deepen their knowledge. Now with the release of the Second Edition, it is definitely the most up-to-date and comprehensive material on the topic. To elaborate more:Managing cloud costs is critical for businesses to optimize their cloud investments and achieve their financial goals. As the cloud grows in complexity and scale, so do the challenges of cloud cost management. This is where the book 'Cloud FinOps: Collaborative, Real-Time Cloud Financial Management' by J.R. Storment and Mike Fuller comes in. This book provides valuable insights and practical strategies for managing cloud costs and achieving financial success in the cloud. One of the key takeaways from the book is the importance of collaboration between different teams in the organization to achieve effective cloud cost management. As the authors state,'Cloud financial management is an organizational challenge that requires cross-functional teams and processes. Success requires a strong partnership between finance, engineering, and business teams.'If you're looking to optimize your cloud investments and achieve financial success in the cloud, I highly recommend reading 'Cloud FinOps' and adopting the practices and principles of cloud cost management outlined in the book.

Cloud FinOps is a critical new cloud management discipline
We're able to launch distributed applications on cloud resources faster than ever, but the inevitable need to control the efficiency of your application rears its ugly head. Enter Cloud FinOps the ability to understand utility billing offered by the public clouds and use a variety of techniques to analyze your environment, apply many types of discount optimizations for usage and rates, and ultimately drive your margins up and your cost of goods sold down.I've been involved in varieties of FinOps activities for over 20 years, and this is the definitive book for learning about the ways which individually and across organizations we can make an impact through observing our workloads, understanding and automating recommendations to make them perform better while lower cost. Although it's not authoring, deploying, or testing code, it has the capability to ensure that your company can weather tough times and conserve hard-earned capital to innovate new projects. This book lays out the blueprint for how to start from a place where you have no visibility or control over cloud spending to operating a distributed chargeback model focused on driving the deepest discounts while allowing developers to still operate and innovate at scale.

Good book, taught me everything I needed to pass the test
I purchased this book with the intent of studying it and then taking a class or going to some other source of data, but after reading it I took the exam and passed!

FinOps: Transforming Finance and DevOps for the Cloud Age
This book offers a thorough and well-structured exploration of FinOps, tailored for professionals seeking to understand its principles, frameworks, and practical application in the cloud computing domain. Its easy-to-read format, reminiscent of a novel, seamlessly combines theoretical insights with real-world stories, making it both engaging and informative. While it leans more towards explaining the 'what' and 'why' rather than the 'how-to,' the content is thoughtfully attributed to the expertise of the FinOps Foundation, suggesting a follow-up volume might delve deeper into practical methodologies. This book acts as a reinforcement rather than a revelation, with the exception of its stance on tooling. It wisely advocates for the adoption of third-party tools before committing to extensive in-house development—a strategy that merits consideration for its practicality in accelerating FinOps initiatives. The book is meticulously organized into chapters that cover the gamut of FinOps topics—from foundational principles and cultural shifts to strategic frameworks and lifecycle management. Highlights include a deep dive into the core principles of FinOps, the significance of cost allocation as revealed by the 2022 State of FinOps report, and the critical role of a central FinOps team in driving cost optimization and rate optimization strategies.A particularly notable aspect is the book's emphasis on the collaboration between FinOps teams and engineers, underscoring the importance of trust, executive support, and skills diversity. It also addresses the evolving nature of cloud billing and the strategic approaches to tooling, forecasting, and cost management automation.Furthermore, the book explores the intersection of FinOps with sustainability, highlighting Azure's unique position in carbon emissions reporting and the role of FinOps in fostering responsible cloud usage. The discussion extends to the challenges of forecasting, the intricacies of commitment-based discounts, and the detailed exploration of FinOps for containerized environments, providing a comprehensive overview for organizations at varying stages of FinOps maturity. In conclusion, while the book solidifies the strategic direction and reinforces the importance of a strong business rhythm, its cautious approach to 'how-to' content and the call for a potential second volume to address these gaps leave the reader anticipating more. Nonetheless, it serves as a valuable resource for those looking to align their cloud financial management practices with best-in-class FinOps principles and strategies.
