Very tough
I have been through a lot of waist packs during my time to say the least. I've tried packs from corner stands, from professional hiking brands and lately from a brand that makes them from Kevlar! That all have the same problem after 1-2 years. The zippers fail! ( less for the cheapo brands that actually also fail by tearing since the material is very thin). So after doing some research, I found this pack and ordered it! I had within 3 days, which was a surprise since I don't live in the UK. Handling this pack immediately you realize that it's tough and the 1000 denier nylon material really makes all the difference. Waterproofed with teflon, you probably would keep your gear safe in the rain. ( haven;t tried it yet since its summer). I wear the pack on a daily basis, at work, hiking or travelling and it has more than enough pockets for what I carry ( wallet, 2 mobiles, ID, Drivers license, keys, maps etc). The hinge is huge and sturdy and keeps its adjustment around the waist. I think I've finally found something that will last. I've only had it for a few months, and am curious to see how long the zippers last! excellent product and by far the most sturdy waist pack I've had after 20 years of using them!

Absolute quality
I try to buy high quality items wherever possible as you really do get what you pay for thesedays. Maxpedition gear isn't cheap, but it's definitely worth saving for over the glut of cheap imitations. Yes it's made in the far east (Taiwan) but there is a huge difference between a company knocking out any old rubbish for a quick profit, and a company with well designed, thought out products that are manufactured to last. I bought this waist pack (not a bumbag!) to use while hiking, and at festivals / gigs. Huge capacity with plenty of compartments and high quality zips. The whole unit is very water resistant, even in heavy showers although obviously not fully waterproof. I can easily carry a compact camera, couple of mobiles, small first aid kit, torch, snacks, multitool etc with plenty of room to spare. Very comfortable (and adjustable) to wear with a large chunky clasp to secure it all. Wouldn't hesitate to recommend this to anyone, and have since bought a second one for a present. 10/10 all round.

Brilliant Waist Pack and Excellent Value!!
The Maxpedition Octa is an excellent waist pack for men and women. My husband has two and I bought a cheaper version but decided to buy one finally and the quality is superb. I can fit all my essentials in there when I am out walking. It keeps it's shape, looks smart and the price was excellent.Would highly recommend this to anyone who goes out walking, even out shoppping. It's great and so glad I finally ordered one.

For the heroes out there...
This review is for the daddy. I have the pack for about 2 years. The pic speaks for itself. If you are a father you need no more comments. A must buy.

20% Smaller than it needs to be for true practicallity.
This item is very high quality but about 20% smaller than it should be to be truly practical. Works well in tandem with my gearslinger for traveling but that net divider in the main compartment is superfluous so I stripped it out. Not really sure about the tie-down on top either for practicality. As always when I buy Maxpedition gear I spend ages trying to justify the cost and then get a feeling of being ripped off over the price. Its good quality gear but there are alternatives out there that are just as good and better value by a country mile. I guess i'm just a brand snob.
