Wonderful, but needs heavier pieces
I love having this chess board when I want the tactile feel of pieces when playing a computer. There are lots of difficult levels, different modes, and clever features like showing where all of the pieces should be positioned on the board (if you happen to hit the board and mix up the pieces). The only thing that would make it better is if the pieces had more weight. They work fine, but they are very light. The good thing is that you can use different pieces since the board works by pressure and not sensing the pieces themselves. It's an intelligently and elegantly designed board. You'll love it.

Nice little travel set
Just got this one from Amazon. It's just like the travel sets from Radio Shack and the Kasparov endorsed ones from the late 80's and 90's. Very cheap plastic compared to them though. Screw based battery cover could be a problem if used a lot. Also, it doesn't have a cover to keep the spare pieces in place even though there are two slots at the top edge for one. This is a problem because it initially is hard to open, it snaps twice to open fully, given you a chance to make your spare pieces airborne. Altogether, not bad for a travel set and worth it at the current price.

Do Not Recommend Purchasing
I purchased the Lexibook Chessman® FX Electronic Chess Game twice, and both experiences were disappointing. The first unit arrived looking used, setup was difficult, and the moves were not recognized. After struggling to get it working, I ended up returning it and requesting a replacement. Unfortunately, the second unit was no better. It also appeared used; the instructions were unclear and hard to follow, and once again, the moves were not recognized. We were never able to get a game started. Based on both attempts, I would strongly advise against purchasing this item.

Decent beginner set, plastic pieces
4 stars because the magnetic closure on the board doesn’t function properly so you can’t truly close it as a case. Otherwise a great starter set. Pieces are plastic with one being broke upon unboxing (but I glued it back together where an arm fell off the knight). This is not a high quality set but a good set for beginners and a fun set if you’re a HP fan

Reset button to the rescue!
Yay, I got it to work! At first I could do zero games with it, even after reading the manual. The word reset is never mentioned in the manual, but is in small lettering on the back of the unit next to a pin-size hole. After pushing in the spring reset with a sewing needle when the unit was off, it was some improved. After pushing the reset when the unit was on, it worked fine on the easy level I tried. I used a separate chess board for all the pieces and used the electric board to press the start square and finish square of each of my moves and of each of the computer's moves.

Not worth the price, maybe worth it at half off.
The pieces are cheaply made and the magnets on the bottom fall off. (2 were off when we opened the box). They are so light and fragile that someone setting a drink on the table near it will cause them to all fall over. Not weighted or made properly. Definitely not worth the high price.

Harry Potter Fans will love this!
My grandson loved this chess set. I only wish the pieces were not plastic and a bit heavier. But it’s made really well.
