Does the style with wheels also come with feet in case you choose not to use the wheels?

Can I eliminate one of the middle shelves without effecting the unit's stability?

The shelving is completely adjustable and you decide where you want to place to place them and how many you want to place. It shouldn’t effect the unit’s stability if you decided not to put a shelving in the center. The only thing that is recommended is that you put your heavier items on the lowest shelves to provide even more of a sturdy base.

What is the width of the actual shelf portion? I have two 17" wide storage containers I'd like to put on one shelf

I use the wheels, but I guess you could omit them
