Sean Penn is the be(a)st. I missed this movie and I thought that I should add it to my collection. I saw it once or twice shortly after launch... probably in cinema, but I'm not sure anymore. Anyhow...Sean Penn is the be(a)st 😁

Good film - disc played with no issues
I read the book and even though the storyline couldn't be called 'enjoyable' the read was. The book translated well to film (as did Shutter Island - also worth a read and a watch if you haven't already). If I was to compare the story, I would say it is entertaining in the same way Sleepers is - a difficult watch at times when you factor in the sadness of the theme. Importantly, the disc played without sticking. I watched it all the way through (without pausing or stopping, but I would imagine it would have continued to play well even if I had).

A film that gets better the more you watch it. Another bitter chapter of Clint's tale of America
Did not love it the first time but now I realized that Mystic River gets better the more you watch it. It is not as mainstream as some facts could make you think of it: a hollywood big cast, an easy story of family drama and revenge. No, Mystic River is a slowly insinuating drama where you progressively realize that Clint is talking, still and again, about how social and collective pressure can destroy individual. So the pedophile storyline is maybe just a hook to catch and compell viewers but the real deal here is personal and social dynamics and how pain and solitude are not people's business, because the show must go on and everything gets lost under the rethoric and entertainment of a street parade, where everyone's happy, official values must be restored and individual just disappears, like a body in a river.... All the cast is superbe, especially Tim Robbins and Kevin Bacon (who is basically actin and talking like Clint). The direction is slow, intriguing, dark and very controlled, with no exibition of style, even more than usual. A mature, very mature and yet strong style

Great film, even better book!
Arrived super quick and in perfect condition. I had read the book on recommendation of my friend, and finished it just days after receiving it. I couldn't put the book down and when my friend said the film was just as good, I couldn't wait. The film did not disappoint and Sean Penn and Kevin Bacon play their roles brilliantly. The film had been made in the way I'd pictured everything in my head and couldn't fault it. Obviously there are a few things that were missed because not everything can fit into a 2 hour film but definitely a great film! I would definitely recommend reading the book before hand though.

Sound not very good.
Thought this film was very slow and the sound was terrible. Lots of muttering. The story line was good but I think it could have been shorter. My partner fell asleep !! Won't watch it again.
