Incredible Gift!
I bought this as a gift for my brother-in-law who cycles like crazy! He loved it. It is good quality and the book itself is REALLY interesting, especially the reference to historical places and event that rides have been organized through. He loves it, I love it (and I don't even cycle!!). THANK YOU!

A Wide Variety of Places
My son is a bicyclist who would like to bike and travel the US and around the world. This book is everything I hoped for.It gives highlights and background information for each ride. It also discusses pitfalls and advice. For example one 3-day ride in a Utah desert trail, the book pointed out that there's no potable water. The biker would need to carry enough water for the trip which would be almost an extra 25 lbs at the start of the ride. Another route in the South takes the bicyclist on one of many ways escaping slave traveled to get to freedom. It gives some historical background as well as places to stop and sites to see.The book also provides the length of each trip and, when available, shortened versions of the routes. The pictures are beautiful. This book is well worth the money.

What a treat for someone who loves biking!
This birthday gift was just perfect for a man who loves biking, and now has something to dream about and plan for! National Geographic photography and well-researched info about difficulty and length of trip, sites along the way, and it covers all continents.

Mostly excellent, one problem out of the gate
Just rode the Shimanami Kaido in Japan, one of the rides detailed in this beautifully illustrated book. Roff says on page 324, "Built in 1999, the traffic-free bicycle path follows a leisurely course..."It is anything but leisurely. The whole thing is either up or down, little level riding. And there were cars and trucks inches from my bike most of the ride. Makes me wonder about the rest...
