Hope you never need it but be glad you have one
The media could not be loaded. I found it quite hard to choose between the X-Sense range of smoke alarms, they all seem to be well priced and have great reviews so I went for the SD10F.Out of the box and it’s a smaller unit than I expected, it also light and slim. It comes with a back plate that you can screw to the ceiling and then the main housing pushes and turns to clip in place – this ‘push and turn’ also activates the battery as there is a push button which is depressed in this action. For my purchase I also got the MA-1 magnetic attachments (5 in the box) so instead of screwing the unit to the ceiling I attached one of these metal plates. The idea behind these is that you have 2 metal disks with large heavy duty sticky pads on each and one disk is magnetised. One part gets stuck onto the unit into a ready made groove and the other metal disk sticks to the ceiling That way you can borrow it if you are say working in the shed or the garage where you wouldn’t normally have/need one, mind you for £10 perhaps I should just invest. So the alarm itself has a 10 year battery and if we all remember, please come back for an update :) The alarm sound is recognisable as a smoke alarm and lets out a piercing noise and now I know what 85 decibels sounds like. Its turned of by a simple press, or two presses in the video. I don’t believe you can replace the battery. When the alarm is active (not activated) the red light flashes about every 30 seconds to remind you that it works. The blurb says it has a low battery warning and please come back for that update, unless it didn’t of course. So nice and easy. For me, no screws no hassle and adaptability. The unit is well made light and smart. See you in a few years.... perhapsLike my review please say you did, below

do not detect smoke.
received today and tested with test button and they worked fine.So mounted one of the alarm to ceiling and tried testing with actual smoke (of burnt paper) alarm did not detect smoke. so tried others from package with same outcome.at the same time my old alarm did work fine. Whenever you buy these smoke detectors pls make sure to test them with actual smoke.

Fine
It's great. Looks nice and compact and modern, isn't too big or too heavy to use those magnetic pads to stick it up.Obviously I haven't tested it in a fire, but it looks fine and alarm is good and loud when you press the test button. One star missing because of the poor instructions. it's not obvious at first how to turn it on. Eventually after reading through others' questions I found out that you have to fit it first and when you twist it on the plate to fasten it up, it's activated. There are on/off arrows on the front but it's not obvious what they refer to until you put it up.

Battery lasted 4 years not the 10 claimed
Battery lasted 4 years and not the 10 claimed. I can't speak for its ability as a smoke alarm as thankfully I have not needed it to act as such. More worryingly it suggests testing once a week and I probably tested twice a year so if I had tested as recommended it probably would have lasted even less than it did.

Great unit, perhaps no screws required if you use Command Strips.
Yep, does the job and was easy to fit. You might want to use Command Strips instead of screwing into the ceiling. The unit is very light command strips just make life easier.

Both not working check yours are.
Looks very nice but... a Big problem I got a follow up email asking how happy I was with this product . So I thought I better check they work. I used the test button when installed and that worked fine. But a few months later I noticed when my wife burnt some cooking the alarms didn't go off. So I lit some rolled up newspaper and lit it and let it smoulder. I then put this under both the smoke alarm and neither were activated! There was loads of smoke and still nothing. I pushed the test button and this worked? Very worrying please check yours if you have one . I'm going to contact the manufacturers.

Smoke alarm
The smoke alarm is in the attic and works on test and hopefully will never make a noise or we are in trouble. It seems a good product.
