Low security combination lock
As many have commented, the numbers are very small and if (like me) you have poor close vision, difficult to read. Abus have made up for this by making it particularly easy to manipulate (pick). This saved me from having to get my glasses to get it open. It took me 20 seconds. (less time than finding my glasses).I bought one of these specifically because it said in the description that it was "provided with locking mechanism that gives special protection against manipulation". The only thing that I can find that might be meant by this is that after you have detected the combination correctly, the lock will not open until you release tension on the shackle. Effectively this is the same as all the other combination locks on offer and has no protection against manipulation, and must be considered low security.Suitable for locker rooms and locations where the would be attacker is constantly observed and would not want to risk even 20 seconds removing the lock. I expected more sport for my twenty quid, you can get more challenging locks for a fiver. On the plus side, it is big and heavy and looks like a real one.Despite previous comments I used this (after breaking my key lock) to make my shed look like it was locked and in the process of using it discovered some nice features. unlike many combination locks you can close the lock with the wrong combination displayed. This means that you need only apply the combination to unlock, and then immediately scramble the dials - not leaving the lock lying around displaying its unlock combination this is a nice feature. I oiled mine heavily, (I know you are generally not supposed to oil locks as they will collect dirt but I reckon its a trade between that and weather damage and oil wins for me) it runs pretty smoothly now, but doesn't improve its security.

Excellent quality - strong and reliable
I debated for a while just how much to spend on this lock - it was for a side gate to our house so didn't need to be a top quality security lock, but it did need to be good enough not to rust and seize up like the one we inherited when we bought the house!I think we made the right choice as this lock is heavy and strudy, and the number dials on the base are still moving very easily after about 5 months outdoors (ie. Feb ->July). The lock itself is opened by pushing the clasp and base together and this is still working as well as the day we bought it which is great.(If I was being picky I suppose the number dials on the base are slightly small, those with fat fingers might struggle, but then again there isn't space for larger dials unless you go for a more industrial size/strength!)FURTHER UPDATE - JULY 2015: This is a top quality lock! Still shiny and smooth to operate... finally a lock that doesn't rust and stick! :o)FURTHER UPDATE - AUGUST 2016: Still shiny and smooth to operate... not even had to use WD40 or anything on it!

Solid - but check the shackle dimensions are suitable for the intended use.
Good solid body and shackle. Combination relatively easy to change using the tool provided. Be careful to check the shackle dimensions to ensure that the lock will fit in/through the item you wish to secure. I bought this lock to use with a Keter 1200 litre 'Store it Out Max' storage unit and the lock was completely unsuitable - shackle too thick to fit through the pre-drilled hole and too short to give any clearance even if it had fitted. (My own fault as I should have measured beforehand). Consequently am unable to comment on the durability or weather-proofing of the lock as I have not actually used it.

Good value but quirky
Reasonably robust and O.K. for weather resistance. Some people find the numbers hard to read and move, but if you lubricate them occaisionally they last well enough. One word of caution on resetting the code is that the mechanism can stick especially on new or corroded locks. So you think you have set a new combination, removed the key and randomly change the combination to lock the padlock. As you are doing this you feel a slight click and the padlock has set itself to a random code and is now useless. I now first use a known code eg 1111 and check that works and carefully move the dials 1 number away to make sure the mechanism is free before moving to my desired code.

Very solid padlock
Very solid lock. A very determined burglar could get through most defences but this will deter most. Even bolt cutters would struggle with this hasp. The instructions for setting the code are minimalist, to say the least, make sure the lock is open when you put the key in. It's not too obvious which way to turn the key, either I was lucky or it doesn't actually matter which way you turn it. Only just bought it so no idea about how long it will last but spraying with an aerosol oil every month or so will hopefully keep it going for years

ABUS 180IB/50 COMBINATION PADLOCK STAINLESS SHACKLE
This is on my back garden gate... Got fed up with my son either leaving his key/s hanging in it, or losing keys with the previous one!! :o(Had it for more than a year now, and happy to report it's perfect for its intended use. No rust, No problems!!Happy to recommend!!

Hard to read
Initial reaction only, but not too favourable.Image does not make it clear just how tiny the numbers on the combination dials are; they are quite hard to read even in bright sunlight. Also, the dials are not very smooth-turning in operation.Time will tell how weatherproof this allegedly outdoor-capable lock is. It is unimpressive, however, that after only 2 weeks the growth of some kind of mould has made the tiny numbers even harder to distinguish. Definitely not recommended for anybody who does not have good vision at close distances.

Good quality and problem free.
Had this in use for a little while now. I use it to secure the side access to the rear of my property. I didn't want to mess about with finding keys for a lock etc so went for this combination. I have peace of mind knowing my gate is locked and my daughter can play in the garden with her friends securely knowing no one can get in and they can't get out. It is unlocked weekly to get the bins out and so far has not caused any issues. Very pleased with the quality.
