Tasty Coffee!!!
Overall this makes good coffee. I never had an expensive espresso machine. Had I know espresso tasted so pleasant I would have bought an espresso machine months ago. If a plastic taste is an issue you can run six full tanks of water through before you make you first cup. I ran three tanks through still had a faint plastic taste. After six full tanks ran through I do not notice any plastic taste. I bought another grounds attachment because capsules are way over priced. It cost about 25 dollars for about a pound and half of coffee if you doing capsules. It is more expensive if you do Dolce which is the most expensive capsules out there for this machine. Had I know Espresso taste so wonderful I would I have bought a top notch espresso machine months ago. This machine fits about 11 grams dark roast coffee in the attachment maybe 12 or 13 grams light roast coffee. I grind up at about 75 clicks in my Kingrinder K-6 which makes so I do not get any grounds in my coffee. There are not many espresso machines with do your own grounds that have capsules also. Only problem is it tends to leak if you over fill the grounds or over pack them. This espresso machine is a really a find. Another problem my be how loud is it and that vibrators where you need to watch and sometimes hold you coffee cup in place. Even though there are a couple downsides to this machine overall it unique. You need to get little hot thumb after you brew your own ground because the grounds get hard in the espresso cups if you do not wash your grounds right away. Hopefully it last a great while. After about 12 days the espresso maker would swirl with 16 ounces of water in it where I filed a return and followed through with bringing it to UPS. It a great little machine if it works for you. I could have trouble shot the situation but I thought it not worth my time or money. It did make an awesome cup of espresso when it did but after 12 days it started having problems with water flowing the pod. It was worth my effort so I returned it. If you buy do not expect it to last more than a two weeks and then plan that you going to have to troubleshoot it. I really wish this Kotlie would have worked out for me. It makes a better shot if espresso than my new Solis Barista Perfetta Plus. Only problem Kotlie has, is it has difficulty with light roast brew.A place alone and a cup of coffee!

2nd unit broke too. I cannot recommend.
10-19-24 Update. The second unit is failing with a loud thumping noise and barely extracting without pressing a button twice. BTW, I grind whole espresso beans rather than use K-cups. Also, it has never produced a solid puck after extraction, which I'd praised in my original review. But now it is starting to fail like the first broken unit that had died in about 8 months of nearly daily use. I was glad that I'd bought two (it was for a friend but she had just given up coffee, so I kept it). The second unit still gets hot but it's now 'very' loud with a thumping sound as it extracts. Could it explode? I'm concerned! It has always been loud, a major comment in the negative reviews, but I was not too worried. Then about two months after using the second Kotlie, it has started to fail. The first one stopped heating. The second one heats, but the loud thumping tells me that it's not long in this world either. the 6 oz extraction is barely 3 oz. So, I must press twice. The espresso barely gives me 1 oz! I am now looking for a replacement. I'm, sorry Kotlie, but I cannot recommend your product at this time. I will NOT take another chance to waste my money on a defective product!BUYER BEWARE!!!12-19-23 UPDATE: AFTER 45 DAYS I love this little coffee maker. I bought another for a friend.8-11-24 UPDATE, I had to troubleshoot an issue because it wouldn't make coffee and just clicked with lights flashing. I tried 3 different troubleshooting methods, but none worked.Purchased in November 2023 and died in August 2024. It didn't last 10 months with just 1 to 3 uses a day.In mid-July 2024 I noticed that the coffee wasn't as hot, but it was still getting tasty extractions, so I wasn't concerned. But a couple of weeks later the the unit started to click and flash both 2 oz and 6 oz lights constantly. I had to hold down both buttons and press the on/off button for it to stop. Then I pressed the on/off button again to turn off and then pressed it again to turn on. The flashing lights and clicking started up again. I repeated the same procedure several times and the flashing and clicking stopped. Then I was allowed to extract a cup of lukewarm coffee while the unit clicked. So, for several days now I've had to repeat the same procedure again and again to get a lukewarm cup of expresso. BTW, a local repair shop said the problem was the thermostat. So, after purging the system, running scale remover through it and purging again, the unit must be repaired for $50 plus parts. It's cheaper to buy a new one if there's a coupon. LOL!Luckily, I had another that I had planned to give as a gift but the person stopped drinking coffee. So I kept it.I will update again if it breaks too.The review below was written in happier times!!!---I've used the KOTLIE every day to make espresso with excellent results including excellent silky-smooth crema. I grind whole bean espresso coffee to save money and I get a good solid puck nearly every time, which tells me the extraction is going perfectly. However, recently my machine stopped pumping water. Steam came out of the back and some water dripped into the reservoir. I unplugged the KOTLIE and plugged it back in several times without any change. Luckily--I remembered watching a TROUBLESHOOTING video on Amazon with the product page. I watched it again and it solved my problem. Also, page 18 of the manual shows the procedure of how to prime. There is a two-piece priming accessory that came with the KOTLIE that must be separated. The hollow tube part is inserted into the hole that the reservoir is otherwise inserted into. I filled the hollow tube with water and then used the plunger part of the accessory to force the water into the KOTLIE. A small amount of water came out of the tube at the top of the KOTLIE. I had to prime it twice. It is suggested to do that (prime) before the first use, but I never did.So, if your KOTLIE stops pumping water, do this priming method as the solution.UPDATE: January 10, 2024I am still loving this coffee and espresso maker. I consider it one of my favorite purchases from Amazon. So, I bought a second one for my music studio. It's THAT convenient and easy to use and hardly any mess which is great since there is no running water. I have a spray bottle with a little vinegar and water that I space the working parts to clean them effortlessly.I highly recommend this coffee maker ESPECIALLY if you grind your beans! Bravo! A huge LIKE!Original review: I drink a cup or two of coffee a day. So, a larger more expensive coffee maker was out of the question. I saw the compact-sized KOTLIE on sale for $119.99 (and with the $40 coupon) discounted to $80 plus tax. Because it used several varieties of coffee pods, it caught my interest. So, I bought it but not after reading the reviews, both negative, positive, and in-between. I am glad that I disregarded the negative reviews, but a disclaimer, I've owned it for just 10 days. So far, I am greatly impressed with its ability to make a fast cup of delicious espresso with a very nice crema (no bitterness or sourness detected), and a pleasant-tasting cup of coffee that is neither too strong nor too weak. (Goldilocks would be impressed if she drank coffee) I detected no plastic taste or smell at all. I drink my coffee simply black. Depending on the K-cup brand or the espresso brand the flavor profile and your taste experience may differ. My experience has been 100% satisfaction, and I am very difficult to please when it comes to coffee.I bought my K-cup pods from the local Ollie's discount store (80 RIPAFRATTA brand Kona blend pods for $21 expiration date Apr 2025, and 40 Aspen Ridge Dark Roast pods for $19 exp. date Aug 2024). I bought Peets Crema Scura espresso pods from Amazon, on a subscription basis (prices vary exp. date of Apr 2024). I am very happy with the flavor profiles of both kinds of pods. The 6 oz. K-cup brewing amount may be extended by holding down the brew button or by pressing it again after brewing. But expect weakened coffee. I use two pods for 12 oz. and a 4" tall, 3.5" dia. cup (I remove the drip tray, and the cup balances just okay but not very steady, so beware... Pressing the button again will shut the brewing process off to adjust the strength of the brew as desired. I like that feature very much. The same button pressing applies to brewing espresso but the single press will deliver 1.5 oz. so if you want a Ristretto you need to press the button sooner, about halfway through the process. For Lungo hold the button longer for the flavor profile you desire.Details are included in the manual. Read it for best results.Note, one negative: Drippage is extensive if the K-cup coffee pod lever is lifted after the cup is removed, so don't remove the cup until after the lever is disengaged (lifted). The drip tray will obviously catch the excess water unless it is removed to accommodate a taller cup. Some liquid remains in the system after coffee brewing is cut off, much less so after espresso finishes. Keep a sponge or paper towel nearby (smart for any brand of coffee maker, btw!).I am also looking forward to brewing with the E.S.E. pods and my own coffee powder, eventually.I recommend this delightful coffee and espresso maker to one of two people who desire their coffee quick and delicious at a reasonable price. You can thank me later...
