Great read
I really enjoyed this book, it was full of action, and had great wisdom throughout. The story plot was right on, and the characters definitely had some interesting moments! Can’t wait to read the next one.

what an amazing series!
This is one of the best series that I’ve read in a long time. The story plot is insanely creative, fresh, and grabs you from Book 1, Page 1. The characters are multi-dimensional- you’ll feel their pain, their joys, and become part of their struggles. The writing is gifted. Every book in this series deserves 5 stars and more.

Excellent writing, -1 star for making me sob uncontrollably
Excellent story, character development, all the things that I love about the series. But seriously, getting me that invested and then making me cry so hard over characters just makes me seriously depressed. Kudos for making it part of character growth and not making it feel arbitrary, so still excellent writing. Most people probably aren't as sensitive as I am about this sort of thing and will applaud it as part of the story. I simply hate finishing a story sadder than I started.

great read
This shot in the dark has turned into one of my favorites. The story just keeps getting better and better. The characters growth is well done and the world is rich and vibrant. My only complaint is this feels like the 2nd training montage book in a row. It would be nice to get back to the group and world building.

Overall a worthwhile read
I gave this book five stars because when judged in a vacuum it is a very fun and entertaining book that deserves five stars. Outside of a vacuum however…I don’t think I am alone when I say that the expectations and what I was looking forward to the most before reading this book was the MC’s return to Grave and the progression of that portion of the story line. I did know that the trials were going to need to be resolved first but in no way did I expect an entire book to be dedicated to them. So given that (Expectations - Reality = Disappointment). I do find myself a bit disappointed. I don’t know how much of my expectations are my own to blame or the authors. So I decided the fairest thing to do is rate the book in a vacuum and only consider how good what the author chose to cover was. Which in my opinion was really good. Had the author not ended the story where he did and chose to give us the build up and resolution of one major event from the upcoming Grave story arc. This book would have been a strong contender for best book I’ve read this year.

A wonderful addition to the series
This book took time to focus in one aspect of the MC's journey, which has been a refreshing change of pace considering the MC's ability to jump from one life changing event to another. I look forward to more of what this author can publish.

Always a good listen.
The book is awesome. The story flows smoothly from number one through to this current release. Lots of intertwining plot tricks. Lots of humor, a wee bit of crazy, and a dash of conflict. A large dash. We follow the main character through his master trials in the bamboo viper steps, making new friends and forging new bonds. It helps that Travis Baldree is an awesome narrator!

Another stellar entry
So the Step Master trials take up almost the entirety of the book, and I’m actually pretty ok with that. It was great to see Ruwen progress his knowledge there and realize that he still has things to learn. It was also great to see his interactions with the other Adepts and how things pan out. We get the culmination of a couple of long running threads, and some sweet setup for book 8. My only wish was that Ruwen would have progressed more in his cultivation levels, but I think that’s coming next book along with some other very interesting possibilities. And man I CANNOT WAIT! Things are about to get wild!
