What happens if you turn the fan off at the switch? Will it restore its previous state when the power is restored?

Yes it happens to me all the time I unconsciously turn the light off at the switch all the time and when I turn it back on it goes back to the last setting

Can the fan be triggered on by HomeKit with an ecobee3 room sensors

That I don't know but I have The light on the fan come on when I return home but only after dark via HomeKit so I would imagine you could do the same with a room sensor or do something similar to trigger the fan good luck and sorry I don't know the exact answer john

It says this fan is compatible with alexa, but some reviews say it is only compatible with apple homekit. is that correct?

Mine works with Alexa just fine. Light and fan.

What bulbs does it take, and can you replace them with Phillips Hue bulbs?

The fixture takes standard A19 bulbs, and yes, Hue bulbs would fit. However, I don't know why you would want to do so unless you really really want adjustable color light from the fan. Both the lights and the fan in this unit are separate "smart" devices and you can on/off/brighten/dim regular bulbs via HomeKit, Alexa, etc. No need to put expensive Hue bulbs in here unless, again, you really want to change colors/color temperature. (And you wou;d need to be careful never to turn off the fan light via the remote, app, or voice or your Hue bulbs wouldn't work since the electricity to them would be cut.)
