this book was for my wife. She is enjoying it greatly as the hymns are for mid range experience and yet sound quite full. She has an extensive music library yet finds this recent addition worthwhile.

The songs are harder to play than they look because in many of the songs some of the notes in the bass clef go well below the staff. There is frequently a moving base line as opposed to just holding out a chord. The base lines alternate between playing 1 or 2 notes at a time. The treble cleft line alternates between 1 note, 2 notes, and a chord. Each song comes with the words written out at the bottom of the song as opposed to being written within the song. Most songs have 3-4 verses and sometimes a refrain or chorus. There are no chords written in above the music. The book is spiral bound and comes with a great selection of church songs. The songs are not written for the beginner and would be too easy for the more advanced player but are great for the average player. The table of contents gives a list of songs in the order they appear in the book and the index gives a list of the songs in alphabetical order giving the page number. In the back there are 11 different hymn stories and there is a cd with 15 songs which I have not listened to. There are almost 400 pages in the book. I have included several pictures so others can see the titles of the songs and get an idea of what the arrangements look like.

I love this Hymn book. The size is great so you can see the music nicely, instead of a church hymnal. Most of the songs are ones I grew up with. As the front of the book says, praise and worship for over four centuries. So if you’re looking for modern day hymns, don’t get this book. The words are separate from the music, which I like. It’s sheet music and the words don’t distract you. There are some different cord progressions which gives the song a nice sound for the ear to hear. I never follow a piece of music exactly how it’s written, so this is nice to have and you can make your own arrangement. I’m glad I bought it. It may not be for everyone but it’s definitely for me. I counted 204 hymns. As far as the CD, It’s very mechanical sounding. Like a computer is playing. I won’t listen to it again. Hope this was helpful.

There are 200 hymns, most of which are standard, including well- known Christmas carols. The arrangements are not what I expected. I was looking forward to traditional hymnal scores. There is a bit of a modern twist to many if these that, while they are listenable and worthwhile, are not what I expected. I ended up buying a traditional hymnal--but will keep this one for theore modern hymns that sound true to their original score. Came with a CD that I have not yet listened to.
