Most computers these days, be it desktop or laptop, do not come with optical drives. And honestly, there's a reason for it, flash drives are better in every respect; they are far faster, have much higher storage capacity, and are much more durable. *BUT* there's always seems that once or twice time a year where you need to get some data of a CD-ROM or DVD+/-R. This is a product for those times. I bought this external optical drive because my mother recently got a new desktop, it didn't come with an optical drive, but mom has stored all kinds of data on optical discs for the past 20+ years and was not about to give that up so I bought here this Asus Zendrive. It's not hard to use, you just plug it in to a USB port and that's about it, there aren't any drivers needed for Win10/11. It's not particularly noisy, the USB cable is a bit shorter than I'd like, but you can place the drive on top of the tower if you need to. These things aren't particularly expensive or anything, but at the same time, most people won't be using them regularly. It's on of those "If you need it, you need it" products.

Works great been backup my entire cd collection. Done almost 200 cds so far no problem

When I went to a concert, I bought a lot of CDs as souvenirs, but the problem was that I didn’t have any device to read or play them. To solve this, I decided to get this external CD drive, and it has been such a lifesaver. With it, I was able to easily transfer all the music from my CDs onto my computer, and now I can enjoy listening to them through my speakers anytime I want. It feels really convenient and also makes those CDs so much more valuable, since I can actually make use of them instead of just keeping them on the shelf. For anyone who still collects CDs but doesn’t have a built-in drive, this is definitely a must-have gadget.

Perfect basic external dvd cd / CDR machine. Cheap and works well

I gave my sister a computer with a newer computer case. Newer cases do not generally have drive bays like they use to so you can use a internal cd/dvd player. Thus, we needed an external drive to play dvds and also burn data from cds/dvds to the computer and back. This Asus model has worked perfect for all of that. It has not gotten a lot of use but has worked fine when it did. It is relatively quiet, and while not nearly as fast as something like an external ssd, it is still fairly quick. It is left unplugged on top of my sis's desk and only gets plugged in if she is using it. It seems of good quality and is a very reasonable price. It has solved the issue on not having an internal cd/dvd drive, and sis can use it on any computer, and myself also if I need to borrow it. This portability I think makes it a better option anyway than an internal one. So no cons. We both like it and it has worked well.

It works. Actually read a disk that has been unreadable for years that I had some childhood recordings on. Was well worth it.

Well, shoot...it read about 8 photo disks and then stopped reading them. I was really hopeful that this drive would work well. The machine will still open and close but it won't read them anymore (even on disks it read just fine 30 minutes ago). Then I have to stick the paperclip in the little hole just to get my disks back. This is my second external drive that has stopped working on me...the other one was the LG - 8x External USB Double-Layer DVD±RW/CD-RW Drive - Black I got at the "Best" of the "Buy" store (not sure if I can add the store name). The Asus worked a little better than the LG but they both were garbage. So on to find a better one hopefully! I really wish they made these like they used to, installed in the computers...they worked so much better back in the day. I was a little bit past my return window for this item but I called Amazon customer service and thankfully they still took it back!

I'm so happy with this purchase. I have all 720 episodes of Naruto + 11 movies all on DVD, and I've been wanting to watch them while I play on my gaming PC but my PC doesn't have a DVD disc drive. This allows me to watch Naruto while I play games or do work!! So happy! It is very very easy to set up :)

Quality burner, would buy again

External drive doing well its job, fragile tray however, handle with care. I did'nt encounter problems.
