If you are PC - you will be shocked......but I enjoyed.
I found this film very entertaining however, it is a Black film probably for a Black audience. If you heard some of the language used coming from a white mouth and you were PC, you would faint with shock. I found it entertaining because, while I am sympathetic towards the issues experienced by black people, I don't go down the road of virtue signalling and having recovered from the shock of some of the language, I managed to relax and just enjoy the film which as funny in parts. I then went on to watch some of the sequels.

They say this Shaft is one bad Mother
A really quite enjoyable fun movie from 2000, that contrary to the common mistake made by most people is not a remake or reboot of the 1971 original but a sequel as the original Shaft Richard Roundtree appears with Samuel L Jackson title character being the nephew of Shaft. It's a fun cartoonish violent movie that I think got it's 18 rating due to all the F-bombs of which they are about 165. Jackson plays the titular character with smooth panche, with able support from Vanessa Williams Det. Vasqez, taking on racist Christian Bale yuppie (who I believe has only played a villian twice in his career both in this same year the other being American Psycho). I like Jefferey Wright small time gangster Peoples Hernadez but he sometimes seems to come off as black version of the character Bencio Del Toro in the also excellent "The Usual Suspects". The movie holds a justifiable 68% fresh rating on Rotten Tomatoes, both Roundtree and Jackson will be returning to their roles 19 years on in this Summer's Shaft (2019), so it remains to be seen if they can bring it again to another level considering they are going for the more comic route this time. Although the fact it is going straight to Netflix is a bit telling as to whether it will come off more as tv movie. The thing I don't get is if these movies are sequels to the 1971 original why is the both 2000 and the 2019 movies simply called Shaft, why not vary the title a bit as it's not very original sounding.

Not very good, a Bit Boring.
I struggled to watch it. Dreadful remake that bears no relation to the original. Full of Anti-White clichés and stereotypes, unrealistic plot that bares no resemblance to reality or any known statistics, presents Black People as victims of Evil White People all of whom are Racist and trying "To keep the Black man down". Ironically, the best performance came from Christian Bale who played the villain. I think the Shaft connection was used to get more publicity for this very average film which is nothing like the original Richard Roundtree classic.

Highly impressive reinterpretation for a modern audience
Excellent service. The package arrived on time and in excellent condition. I really enjoyed the movie and all of the extras. This was Samuel L Jackson at his finest in his first appearance as the iconic Shaft under the director John Singleton. As you'd expect the soundtrack is outstanding and the collection of actors are stellar. This has a gritty and highly entertaining storyline and of course, the original actor in the first ever movie, Richard Roundtree. Truly one for your collection.

"..SUPER COOL MOVIE.."
This is a badass action crime thriller all the way, made in 2000 based on the 70's character, you don't need to see the original to enjoy this, the casting is perfect in this movie making it even more of a modern day classic, Samuel L Jackson is perfect as shaft, a great actor who never fails to entertain, when a man is murdered outside a club one night the killer gets off free by some minor technicalities and his high up contacts but shaft decides he will stop at nothing to put him away!! Christian Bale plays the killer (the villain you love to hate) one of his very early roles as a big star and a great one it is too, the movie has a cool soundtrack of course, plenty of great dialogue, some witty comical lines from Jackson, there's plenty of good action and bloody shoot-outs, its an overall easy going cool movie that's a must see especially if your a big Jackson fan.Blu-ray has a great pictureFeatures include a couple of featurettes and a trailer,Region B, 99-mins, 2000

Why is this even an 18?
Even an appearance from Richard Rowntree couldn't save this movie. Why are producers hell bent on knocking out remakes. Some movies just can't be replicated.I'm left wondering whether this was just a bad comedy. A viewing age of 12 would have been more appropriate.!!

Shockingly bad
Just to be nice, and because Christian Bale played the villain brilliantly, I gave it an extra star to take it up to 2. Poor plot, full of cliches and riddled with blaxploitation references; which have little relevance now and add nothing to the movie. I stuck it out to 2/3 of the way through and cursed the time that I wasted in getting that far. SLJ plays his part well, but he should never have consented to lend his acting support to this drivel.

A really fun remake
Quite a simple and straightforward story allows Samuel L Jackson to chew every piece of scenery. He makes the most of every second of screen time. The action set pieces are fine but it’s Jackson that is loving this part more than any other.
