Did someone ask for a knock off Grease?
well if you did then you're in for a treat, definitely a product of its age. Some bad acting couple with some fun musical numbers. Just watch and either thank me or hate me later. If you didn't ask for the headline, well go watch this anyway.......see if you have a sense of humour.

The film was brilliant. Johnny Depp is so handsome
I used it to watch Cry-Baby as I saw clips of it on certain things & thought why not. So I rented it watched it & I loved it whilst also drooling over Johnny Depp. Now he is my dream man :)

Silly but good fun
The film is a skit on the theme of Grease and the famous song about the girl who loves the bad guy but has a motorcycle crash, funny in parts, but good to see Jonny Depp and later adult star Traci Lords

A little disappointing
This is really a film in two halves. The first half is classic John Waters, funny, nicely paced, lots of great strange characters and great music. About half way it meets a wall and the film goes downhill pretty rapidly. As soon as Cry Baby ends up in jail the film sort of loses it, there are some weak musical interludes (the earlier half seems to use original music while the latter part has music written specially for the film, some of it will make you grimace, especially Allison's big set piece at the end that was truly painful to watch and even more so to listen to), badly choreographed and slightly irritating, the plot and pace of the film seems to just vanish, it becomes just another Hollywood movie and an irritating musical one at that. Since this was John's first big studio picture it may be that there was some interference in ensuring he finished it how they wanted but who knows? Its watchable but not of Multiple Maniacs or Pink Flamingos calibre...More fun can be had watching the tacked on documentary with John and cast talking about the making of the movie - it cracked me up to learn that Amy Locane, as equally innocent as the character Allison that she plays asked Patty Hearst on set if she had ever been arrested! (It turns out that Amy has now been arrested herself in June 2010 for second degree vehicular homicide for a fatal accident after consuming "a few glasses of wine", I wonder what John and Patty would think now?)
