What is the Max depth I can drill? A review says only 1 inch?

With spring in place you have just under 6.5” of travel and with spring removed you have just under 8.5” of travel - length of drill bit used will affect achievable depth.

No, not unless the drill bit has a reduced shank size. The maximum size drill bit is a 3/8” which is about 9.5mm.
