The mesh is probably stainless steel, but the housing, lid and pan seem to be made of aluminum. During the first sieving operation, our hands became black where we held the assembly. Some even made it into one of the stages of the sieve, discoloring a little of our material.

Seems like a nice lightweight sieve stack, although not strong enough for heavy use. The screen appears to be stainless steel. The side, bottom pan and lid all stick to a magnet, as do some grades of stainless. The bottom pan and lid both have a finish that looks like aluminum paint.

When the carpet monster has eaten a watch part, & the magnet has been unsuccessful... time to vacuum!!! Afterwards, I dump the canister through the sieves. Usually, a little tapping does the job. But on occasion, water is required to separate out the finest particals. This set will catch & separate out very tiny screws from the absurdly small pivot jewels. Using just once or twice will pay for itself by locating parts you would have had to order without it.

I make watercolor paint by smashing rocks. This has been my most useful tool. It makes it so easy to get everything even and cleaned. My only real complaint is that the ridge underneath can collect material, but that's kinda to be expected since they stack. I don't know what the solution would be. This will do wonders for me until I can get a pro set up. Easy to clean, stacks nicely, easy to use.
