All the tracks have the black underside with wiring except two straingt pieces that look like regualr E Z track so how does this work?

The pieces with black underside go on the ends of the track run, the plain pieces goes in the middle. Be sure to match up th A ends with A ends and B ends with B ends. Hope this helps. My set-up for a Christmas village reversing train worked real well and was a lot of fun.

I bought this item and am very pleased with it. Has anyone come up with any track plan options beyond the standard straight with curves using additional track and maybe switches?

I am space challenged and my conventional ho set can't be left out, so I bought the reversing track so it can run on a shelf and I don't have to take it down. However, the only additional track available for the reversing set is straight track and 18 inch radius track. No switch tracks. Yet anyway.

How does this reverse system work exactly? I get That it’s supposed to reverse train direction but how does it do that?

It does work. The underside of the track is wired to allow the power to change rails.

Do you need a terminal to go with this?

Mine was a complete kit and I really like it.
