I have just taken delivery of the mini sized one, but i can't find anyway to scroll - the trackball just moves the cursor around. i'm using a macbook.

Hi click the left button on the top of the mouse and the 4 way scroll icon appears. Us the track ball to move up down or sideways. When your done scrolling just click the button inside the mouse to stop it

Is this trackball mouse accurate enough for Adobe design applications?

In my opinion, no. It either moves too fast or too slow depending on how you set it. A cheap tablet would be a much better option.

can you reassign any of the keys using 3rd party software?

I had one similar to this one before but it was called a "Rocket Mouse and it was in a Brilliant Red Colour" I liked it a lot as it was portable and needed for my laptop which was carried about a lot at that time. To be honest with you, I didn't have it very long as my oldest Nephew got his eyes on it and "Nagged me to lend him it to try it out and I never got it back from him!" I loved it but his needs were more than mine at that time so, I relented and true to form, I've never seen it since!" I tried to get another one but later on, but I couldn't find one for sale anywhere! Many Moon's Later, I saw this one, it was in Black, as you can see with the same colour ball "SO I GRABBED ONE!" I've told no one that I've got a replacement for it now, and I can confirm that this one is every bit as good as my previous one! (Regrettably, Not As Pretty regarding the colour, but what the hell, and I allow "NO ONE TO GET WITHIN RANGE OF IT!" If it suit's your fancy, "GO FOR IT!" but don't let anyone "BORROW IT!" (UNLESS YOU'VE BOUGHT A FEW MORE OF THEM!) To hide Away! I Hope This Help's You Out. I can't comment regarding "Re Assignment of key's using 3rd. party software as I've never needed to do that or, tried it. Sorry. Regards Tony. 21-02-2019
