Using on UM780XTX with 4070 Super
So I decided to try out an eGPU setup and this one seemed to be one of the more popular Oculink boards to use. As stated in my title, using this with a UM780XTX and have an Asus 4070 Super connected to it. Everything worked perfectly on first start up and it’s been running flawlessly ever since. Super easy to install everything and getting the max speed possible over Oculink on the GPU. All in all a great way to set up a custom eGPU.

Mostly works on win max 2 2023.
Mostly works in my win max 2 2023 7840U, and RTX 3070 but in order to get PCIE 4.0 x4 speeds I need to use the m.2 adapter. If I use the onboard oculink port then I need to drop the PCIe speeds to 3.0 x4 which equates to about 15-20% performance loss in the real world. For the price it’s something I’m willing to deal with, especially since I can 3D print a cover for the bottom oculink adapter.Your mileage may vary on other computers, or even this same computer, as I’ve seen reports of stable pcie 4.0 x4 on other Win Max 2 2023s. I tried different power saving settings and every tweak I could find in every bios version as of may 2024 but the behavior was consistent across all of them - as soon as the GPU was accessed for acceleration in 4.0 speeds the computer would either lock up completely or blue screen, unless I used the m.2 adapter. Then it works perfectly.

I'm waiting for a slow boat for an actual eGPU enclosure from Minisforum (DEG1), so I decided to get something to use in the meantime. It works, and that's all I needed. I did not need or require the M-key it comes with, so an option for just the PCI-E board would have been ideal, but it is what it is.

Why no cable??
It didn't even come with the Oculink wire to test if it even works.

Pretty good
Let's drive the very first important point here; a WIN MAX 2 is NOT the only device you are allowed to use for this. I bought this for my GPD WIN MINI, which has an oculink port, and this has worked fine.Personally, for $40 dollars the price is very reasonable, especially considering that oculink cables can be expensive. The only gripe I have with this is the board; there is no supporting bracket or piece of anything underneath the actual board to give it some strength. When I connect my graphics card to it, I feel as though I'm going to snap the board because of how thin it is. Also take into consideration that the board does not have those locking clips to give an audible sound that the gfx is connected, you have to provide a little force to make sure it's connected with this product. A little scary, worried that I am going to break the actual board trying to connect or disconnect, but time will tell.Overall this is a must buy if you have oculink and want to use an EGPU. I pair this with a 6700xt to a MINI and get decent performance. For the most recent game example, Hellblade 2 gets me around 68fps on high, 1080P, 120hz. Compare this to TB4, I get around 54fps overall. Oculink definitely gives a nice little bump .

Works like a charm
using it to add a GPU to my Lenovo M900 Tiny PC (operating as a server for my Ollama instance), once plugged in this PC picks it up right away. It didn't work at first but it was a user error on my part. I kinda of wish it had a 90-degree bend on the terminal. I have to buy another Oculink cable to get the case back on. It works as described though.

It works
This oculink dock does work but for the money you can get nicer ones that are a little easier setup and you dont have to worry about shorting something out because this has exposed metal and pcb so you have to be careful of that. It does work well but doesnt look good. setup it looks very cheap even though for a few bucks more you can get something enclosed and have something more permanent setup where as this dock i choose not to for sake of something happening when im not there.I rated 4 stars because it does work but for the money i would recommend getting something else
