Pelican 8QT Personal Cooler & Dry Box

I was tired of the “soft” lunch boxes being damaged by a sharp edge or ice pack, and sweating on the bottom. Looked at several hard lunch boxes but most were either very expensive or too large/small. Also needed one that would separate a sandwich from the ice in the bottom and have another storage space for salt/pepper/fork, etc. Finally took a chance on this one because of the brand name and all of the features. Hit the jackpot. This has everything I wanted, well constructed, tight tolerances, keeps food cold all day, easy to carry and in a pinch works as a step or a seat for a 200 lbs person. The lid latch is a stoke of genius. Latches tight, opening latch is positioned so it cannot “pop” open accidentally, yet easily accessible when you want to open it. Great carrying handle that is readily stored out of the way. This lunch sets the gold standard for others to “try” and reach.

Ordered this for my husband’s Christmas present since he was starting a new job. It is lightweight , the color was exactly like the picture. He is enjoying it as far as better my duriabke to take into the th paper mill

Its perfect for my lunch or drink a six pack by the grill. however it is small so I don't use the basket in order to fit everything inside. So size up to 14 or 20 quarts for multiple meals or people that consume a lot of fluids like construction workers. The dry storage is perfect because you don't lose the functionality of a soft bag with multiple pockets. I keep my koozie, gum, napkins and plastic forks up there. I don't like the built in ice pack. Its too thin and proprietary in case you lose it. I would have like to see the net. As you have the option of stuffing anything up there. The handle is not comfy due the weight and being squared off but it does sit flush unlike the bigger ones. Just a heads up if you have to carry it far. Its aesthetically pleasing and have gotten multiple compliments.

What I like: Perfect size for my needs. Secure latch. Keeps food cold pretty well, as long as you use 2 or 3 ice packs. What I don't like: Storage compartment in lid. You could maybe put a few napkins and condiment packets in it; that's about all. It is really difficult to open with one hand. I could do without it; it just adds weight and makes the cooler a little bigger. Removable ice pack in lid. It is so thin that it doesn't stay frozen very long. It just makes the lid heavier. Weight. This little cooler is heavy for its size. Not only is it heavy, it is top heavy, and easy to tip over with the lid open. The handle being integrated into the lid doesn't help. Would I buy it again? Maybe, but only because was the only cooler that I could find this size.

I purchased 2 of these coolers, one through Amazon and one elsewhere. They work great if you are not on an extended trip where you need a larger cooler. Perfect for day trips, keeping groceries cold if you're not going home right away and a short weekend stay at a hotel. There is a top button that you push on the upper section of the cooler and it turns out to be a hideaway section separate from the cooler section where you can store napkins and plastic silverware.

I got this because the Yeti closest to this size was far too big and ridiculously expensive. Pelican is just big enough for what I need to take to work for lunch. Has stayed cool all day in hot Southern California summer heat with included in the lid ice pack and two additional ice packs at the bottom. Well built and better than many others I have tried recently. For those that like to personalize their cooler, the outside surface is smooth and not dimpled so decals adhere very well. So far excellent user experience. Will update review if any unlikely issues occur.

8qt version. Perfect lunch box. Will stay cold for two solid days with the built in cold slab and a couple of slim ice gel packs. Perfect size for fitting into a work duffel bag, solid as a rock, will last decades. Best lunch box I’ve ever had. Good volume inside even with extra cold packs. Perfect for enough food for a 12+hour work shift.

It is a money value product , good quality as expected.

Pelican have a reputation for building robust, functional products and this cooler is no exception. It's price reflects it's build quality and I was very happy when I unboxed it.

Bouncing around this earth with this brute on the end of my meat slinky for a year maybe, nice unit. One year old regular use and the wear on it is the handle doesnt hold itself upright anymore, there are a few scratches from when I was learning to drive and the label is finally starting to peel but only a corner. Cold all day, included cold pak is great. Eight cans and a half bag of ice-youre welcome. Not waterproof if tipped or used on bear defense.
