This is a typical explorer map, covering Rutland Water area this is the best and most detailed and reliable map to use when walking the area. Typical OS details, splendid. Nothing strange there.However, the map now also includes a code for digital download of an electronic version. Basically you need to download the "OS Maps" app from Android or in my case Apple App Store. Register on-line with OS, and enter the code which is visible under a scratch-off silver area on the map.You can then download the full version of the map to the mobile phone/mobile device via the app.This is actually fantastic, the map is easy to use on your phone and it also polls GPS so you have effectively an OS explorer map with your position on it clearly identified. Very easy for fingerprint zooming in. Really useful to know exactly where you are, where the footpaths/bridleways are, where the pubs are and even to the detail of which side of a hedge on a particular field you're standing.When walking new walks from books the instructions are often unclear and open to interpretation, here you can now clearly follow the footpath or route map with confidence. A real time saver.Because the map is already downloaded you're not using data and you're saving battery life. The fact that rights of way are clearly marked on the map makes it far better than other alternatives such as Runtastic which are great for showing where you've been, not wonderful for showing where you're about to go wrong.My only negative is that downloads of these maps are not available separately from OS without purchasing the hard-copy or taking up a subscription. Seems OS are missing a trick.Anyway, great traditional map - but app is very cheap and effective off-road sat-nav for walkers.

I have an addiction to OS maps, and my daughter and her family have recently moved to south Lincolnshire, giving me an excuse to buy more maps to exploer an area I'm totally unfamiliar with. These maps are a valuable aid to exploring a new place.
