Excellent product to help with controlling fluid intake especially for the elderly who drink too fast or need a controlled flow of beverage while drinking fluids. Length is good, it is reuseable, and fits regular straws. I think it is a little pricey but worth the price due to effectiveness.

This comment is from a speech therapist who recommended this product for our son I’m sorry to report that the SafeStraw™ does not work as advertised. First, if the user provides enough force, they can take in liquids continuously. It does not stop the user from taking in liquids after one sip as it is advertised to do. Second, it takes about 20 seconds for the straw to “reset” so that the user can take another sip. The product description states that it only takes 1-3 seconds to reset. This could be frustrating. Based on these two factors, I don’t recommend Nick continue using it. Please let me know if you would like me to write a statement for the company to make a case for you to get your money back. We are very disappointed, it is a waste of money

Works great for those who tend to be fast drinkers, but are at risk of choking. But beware, fast drinkers may become frustrated & remove it. Ask me how I know 🙄.

Only one of the straws worked. The other one looks warped.

Ordered a pack that contained 2 of theses straws - which were not cheap 1 of them worked perfectly - the second one keeps sticking - the ball that controls the flow into the straw does not fall back down immediately after you take a drink - its takes more than 10 seconds. These straws were ordered for a patient with cognitive impairments that has swallow issues - they cannot understand that they have to wait so long to get a second drink from the straw. Very disappointed that the quality of the straws is not consistent

As a speech therapist, I work with people who have swallow disorders on a daily basis. This is great for all the people I work with who are very impulsive, and don't follow directions very well. This would be good for people with impulse control issues, or who have cognitive deficits which may prohibit them from following directions very well. It provides a set amount of fluids at any one time, and allows the swallow mechanism to protect the airway during swallowing. I would just like to see that you could use with standard straws so you didn't have to waste money on specialty items. Cleaning is okay, but would like something you could trial with more than one person, and be able to sanitize between use.

i was hesitant to buy this one because reviews said the flow was too slow….i needed it for my mom who has alzheimer’s and this was the only option after searching on amazon. it came today, there were safestraws…when i first trued it the flow was so slow like the reviews said. I removed the float, and just used the safestraw cylinder and valve….and amazing…got the perfect flow to prevent my mom from choking…now i can keep the straw in my mom’s mouth and let her sip as long as she wants. thank you safestraw…remove that float part and you will sell a lot of these.

This was suggested by a speech therapist to prevent my husband from swallowing too fast and choking. However it did not work at all with the flapper keep getting stuck so nothing came out. When I got it to work a couple of times and I tried to use it, the amount of liquid that came out was only drops not even enough for a tiny swallow. I returned the item and do not recommend it.
