Butane is a wonderful thing
This saved my relationship with Zippo. I got their classic liquid-fuel lighter with pipe insert. It's a classic. However, every time I went to have a pipe, I knew I'd have to refill the lighter. The fuel would evaporate out. Sadly, I ended up using a cheap Crocs lighter because it just worked. Butane is a wonderful thing. When I heard that Zippo came out with a butane cartridge especially for pipes (with an angled flame) I had to try it. And I LOVE it. My lighter can sit for weeks on end and when I pick it up again, boom, it lights. That's what a modern lighter is supposed to do. Now I've got Bic reliability combined with Zippo style!

Best for tobacco pipes
What a great upgrade! This insert makes lighting your pipe tobacco so much better! Butane is flavorless, plenty hot enough and once you figure out how best to use it for your hands size, it's easy to light. I have large hands so it's a little tricky to get used to, but once you figure it out it's great. The button is small, but again just a learning curve and it's fine. The insert holds enough butane for a handful of pipes. I'd say the instructions are fairly accurate "120 5sec lights". Just a guess but it's close to right. Easy to refill but just make sure you empty it before refilling. Just hold the inlet down for a second with something like a pen or screwdriver and you're good to go.Highly recommend for the price!

Finally! Just one small flaw...
I want to give this 5 stars, just for the fact that it solves the traditional (and infuriating) Zippo fluid evaporation. The flame length is long, like others have said, but just don't hold it right up to the pipe. The reason I didn't give this 5 stars is that there's no hole on the other side, unlike all other pipe lighters. This causes the flame to flow back onto the lighter and your thumb. Not a problem if you just puff super quickly. But that's a design flaw.Still, at least I can use my Zippo again. I stopped carrying mine since it ran out of fluid so fast.

Junk. Barely fits the case that it says it fits!
The media could not be loaded. Description says it fits a Zippo armor case. Well... it kinda does, but it's extremely loose, it comes out too easily which means it also gets hung up in the latch/door and is a general nuisance to use. This is going to fall out easily nonstop. Watch the video. It's terrible. What happened to Zippo's quality over the years???

You can't beat a Zippo
My dad had a Zippo lighter that he carried all through World War II. Somewhere along the line, somebody swiped my dad's Zippo. So I got a regular lighter fluid Zippo, but I decided that I really preferred the gas style. I'm using it for a pipe so I got the pipe design where the flame comes out from the side. This is so great I can't even begin to tell you how much easier it is to use for the pipe than a normal lighter. This thing is excellent quality. The only thing I wish that the Zippo folks would do is beef up that stupid hinge on the lid. It has always felt like it's about to break off. My dad's Zippo from the 1940s had the same issue. I wish the Zippo would find some way to make a more robust lid hinge without changing the design too much. Though I'm sure there are people who love the wonkiness of the lid.

Learning curve
Zippo reached out and let me know that air can get trapped making the lighting inconsistent and hindering a full fill. They instructed me to poke the filling valve until all of the contents were emptied, then to refill with butane. It’s best to empty it completely before refilling. (By the way, the flint-looking thing at the end of the spring IS NOT THE FLINT. The flint is separate and loose. Newbie mistake. I also replaced the flint.)Thank you, Zippo! I’m back to loving my lighter. ❤️)Previous review: I was hopeful for this product. When it was new it took two to three tries to light, and just got more and more inconsistent. Now it stopped working. I’ve filled with zippo butane, checked the flint… nothing. It’s also not wind proof like other zippos. I wrote to zippo a week ago and have heard nothing from them. I’ve gone back to using my lighter from the dollar store. Save your money.

Meh (at best)
I’ve had a zippo forever and in theory I love it, but I’m only a casual smoker. It didn’t take long to realize the standard zippo isn’t made for this- the fuel evaporates way too quickly. I was excited to try the pipe insert. I read the reviews optimistically, and didn’t get too turned off by what I saw.Unfortunately this is just not a great product. Some reviews talk about the size of the flame button- they are right. I have relatively small hands and it’s hard to keep the dang button down. The flame is also tiny and there’s no way to adjust it. I’ve tried it on 3 pipes so far and I can’t get as good a “cherry” with the zippo as I can with 2 matches without a breeze. It does keep the butane, so I guess that’s worth something. But you can probably find better.

I Love this Zippo pipe butane yellow flame insert!!
The media could not be loaded. I bought the butane yellow side flame pipe lighter insert which I also like very much! (I do wish the flame was adjustable on the butane insert however Zippo does NOT offer the yellow flame butane with any adjustment.) Lights my cigarette just fine, be careful when fully filled the flame is quite long. Lights my pipe great and no fuel taste disturbing your favorite buds true flavor ;)I love the design on this Zippo and the fact that it's glow in the dark. It's a nice addition to my collection and the butane pipe yellow flame insert is a nice upgrade!I Made the case as I wanted something soft as to not scratch my Zippos. The Zippo snap cases Etc can actually scratch your Zippo on the inside where the Snap Fastener is located inside, so I elected for the fifth pocket off an old pair of jeans I.E the denim.
