Amy Winehouse at the BBC

At first, I was tentative that this would be yet another cash-in on a deceased legend. But no, this boxset is superb! The DVDs are heartbreaking to watch - the shy, gamine, pretty girl evolves into a sweary, grossly-tatooed, over made-up world-weary crooner with a ridiculous beehive. But what a voice! What feeling! The bonus ball for me was the CD - it blows "Lioness" into the water! Amy was the spiritual (and temporal) heir(ess) of Sarah Vaughan and Bessie Smith. And the "Arena" DVD is so wonderfully sad - Amy is so humble, apologises for being late(!), discusses her plans for Christmas and expouses on her relatively recent passion for jazz, all thanks to her brother playing Ray Charles in the next bedroom! And thankfully, no distracting Mitch, Mark Ronson or assorted "partners" are filmed - just Amy and her fabulous musicians. A treat!

Great value box set. Jules Holland tribute disc particularly good with a lot of Amy's Hootenany appearances with various other artists just showed what a great talent she was. Another disc shows her in concert when her troubles were obvious but she still put on a great show. The 3rd DVD shows her versatility and humility with a show in a small Irish hall with little or no band . CD has all her well known numbers and others done in a non commercial way and all the better for it. Worth every penny.

Well produced album, lovely sound makes you feel like you your there! DVD "s good quality just be prepared that Amy starts to get a bit tipsy towards the end and does make you feel bit uncomfortable towards the end, the day she came to dingle is just Amy at her best, just lovely.All real fans of Amy"s music will love this as she just was such a good musician/lyricist . A joy to own

A brilliant keepsake not just for fans of Amy but for anyone who appreciates great music,she was a great talent and a massive loss,she had so much more to give but what we will never know.......... The Dvd's chart her progress from a nervous young girl through to her no compromise singing style and great stage presence.......Highly Recommended!!

J'avais une attente forte par rapport à ce coffret qui me permettrait enfin d'approcher cette artiste en concert, de comprendre sa vie loin des clichés sordides, de retrouver l'émotion de sa voix... Eh bien, cette attente est comblée. Dans le DVD 1 et le CD 2, les différents enregistrements de la BBC nous montrent la perfection de ce talent, dans une interprétation qui n'est jamais tout à fait la même, tant Amy vivait chacune de ses chansons, qu'elles étaient sa vie. Le DVD 3 est un concert à Porchester Hall. Le dernier DVD est un petit bijou, concert intimiste donné dans une minuscule église de la presqu'ile sauvage de Dingle en Irlande: la jeune Amy arrive en jean's et baskets et... c'est magique! Dans une interview, elle confie ses fragilités et ses influences musicales, parfois étonnantes. A l'intérieur du coffret, un beau livret en couleurs de 60 pages, avec de magnifiques photos de l'artiste et un texte en anglais. J'ai ressenti beaucoup d'émotion et de plaisir à visionner ce petit chef d'oeuvre, qui ne laisse qu'un regret: on voudrait pouvoir entendre et voir Amy Winehouse encore et encore. Elle manque à la musique. Elle nous manque.

Als großer Amy-Fan hab ich mir die Box direkt zugelegt. Deshalb kann ich keine "neutrale" Rezension schreiben; meine Begeisterung für ihre Stimme und authentischen Texte kann ich nicht ausblenden (um zu wissen, in welchem Kontekt beurteilt wurde). Diese Sammlung zeigt ihre Vielfältigkeit als Singer/Songwriter, den Einfluss verschiedener musikalischer Genres und veranschaulicht damit ihren künstlerischen Werdegang. Sie war eine fantastische Jazzsängerin und hat im Laufe ihrer kurzen Karriere einen einzigartigen Sound entwickelt, in dem sich verschiedene Musikstile verbinden. Deshalb ist die Auswahl gut gelungen, sie bietet einen Überblick über Amys Lebenswerk. Ob sie Klassiker neu interpretiert und ihnen da-bei ihre persönliche Note verleiht, ob sie in einer kleinen Kirche fast unplugged singt (atmosphärisch, stimmlich auf dem absoluten Höhepunkt) oder als irgendwie trotzig wirkende 19jährige mit E-Gitarre auf der Bühne steht: man lernt verschiedene Seiten ihrer Musik und unterschiedliche Stimmungen (die untrennbar mit ihrer Wirkung bei Perfomances verbunden sind) von Amy kennen und bekommt einen umfassenden Gesamteindruck ihres Talents und den Stationen ihrer musikalischen Entwicklung. Wer sie neu oder besser kennenlernen will: uneingeschränkte Kaufempfehlung. Eingefleischte Fans werden wahrscheinlich so gut wie nichts Neues finden. Es sind schon etwas rarere und nicht nur sehr bekannte Aufnahmen dabei. Die, die aber große Unbekannte erwartet haben, werden enttäuscht. Allerdings sind viele Sachen das erste Mal offiziell in Deutschland veröffentlicht und liegen -vermutlich- in guter Qualität von Bild und/oder Ton vor (übrigens: die verfügbaren deutschen Untertitel erleichtern das Verständnis bei Problemen mit dialektbehaftetem Englisch). Weil ich an Technik kein Interesse und darum kaum Ahnung davon habe, kann ich diesen Aspekt nicht sachgerecht beurteilen. Dennoch bin ich der Meinung: der Kauf lohnt sich auch für Fans, die es schön länger sind. Wer nicht einen strikten Sparkurs einhalten muss, darf ruhigen Gewissens zugreifen. Auch wenn es immer häufiger getan wird: ich finde es nicht von Vorteil, wenn CDs/DVDs etc. "überlappend" in ihrer Verpackung untergebracht sind, anstatt sie einzeln zu platzieren. Das könnte besser sein. Ansonsten bin ich mit meinem Kauf absolut zufrieden.
