I'm looking to buy this, or similar, by connecting straight into my mbp would it be ok to connect via a xlr to usb straight into the computer?

There are some EXL to USB adapters (active device), and since this mic does not require phantom power... they should work fine. As regards whether this would be the best quality option, probably not, but it's far from impossible. Is anyone aware of someone selling the stand mount separately.. or, perhaps there's another option similar to the mount supplied with the shure sm7b?

Yes, it is sold separately. You can find it most readily at ham radio sellers. In the UK, for example, you can check out Radio World Ltd or Martin Lynch & Sons. Hope this helps!
