Prompt response
My (15 month old) GE Opal 2.0 countertop ice-maker started squealing, and then developed a constant, loud thumping noise. It was also not producing ice nearly as quickly as it was before the noises started. Once I filed the claim, and had a short phone call with an Asurion rep, they scheduled a local appliance repair company to come to my home to check the unit out. The appointment was about 4 days after the initial call. After his arrival, the service tech spent about 45 minutes to an hour working with it, with no resolution. The next day, we were notified that the unit could not be repaired, and to look for an email with an Amazon gift card to reimburse us for the loss. We received the gift card within a day, and the new icemaker is (quietly!) making ice as I type this.

I should have read the reviews
This is supposed to be delivered via email but I still haven't received it. I've already received my appliance which is great and next time, I will go directly to GE's page and order there since they offer protection of their own. Lesson learned. ETA -- STILL HAVE NOT RECEIVED THIS WARRANTY almost three months later.
