The Housemaid's Secret

“The Housemaid’s Secret” by Freida McFadden is a superb book. It is a continuation of her prior thriller “The Housemaid.” Readers who missed the preceding volume will still enjoy this one, even if they haven't read it. Anything that they need to know is told in this tale. This thriller is about a poor woman with a history of ten years in jail for a murder she did not commit. She did kill a man, but it was self-defense. The man was threatening to kill a woman he had been abusing. The jury at her trial did not believe the truth. As a result, she had difficulty finding a job as an ex-con. She worked as a maid. But on the side, he helped many abused women and got a reputation among those whom she helped. She receives a call from a wealthy man to come work at his penthouse. He told her his wife is very ill and she should not try to speak to her. When she sees blood on the floor, she approaches the woman, who tells her she has been brutalized repeatedly by her husband. She decides to help. However, as in all Freida McFadden thrillers, what appears to be true is not necessarily true; good people may be bad, and bad people may be good. There are always twists and turns in the thriller, with plenty of red herrings. Readers will enjoy this book.

good but the first book was better, kind of predictable but does have a good twist.

Amazing author and yet again another amazing book to read! Very suspenseful and keeps you on your toes!

I have been in fiction ready rut for many, many years. Every so often I look for a book, but nothing really sparks my interest. I came across the movie Housemaid and the story had me on the edge of my seat the entire time. Millie’s character is such a badass, and love that she is both sweet and terrifying at the same time. I decided to use The Google to look something up about the movie and realized it was based on a book and, better yet, it’s a series! I bought the book that night and finished it in a few days. This book has revived my love for reading and psychological thrillers. Well written, twists I for sure didn’t see coming and a love story in between. I don’t want to provide spoilers, but I def will recommend this book to anyone. I can’t wait to read the next one and thank you for reviving my love for reading!

This is an enjoyable read. Frieda McFadden starts slow, building the characters and situation, traverses to the characters planning their crimes, and then a very exciting and surprising ending!

Millie? Nosy as hell. FFS 😤😂 Now listen, Enzo and Brock? They carried this whole damn story on their backs like saints. I genuinely don’t know how I made it through without rage-quitting—probably because they were the only ones who remembered how to use their brains. Bless them 🙏 I actually enjoyed the first book, even though I barely remembered half of it (oops). I walked in thinking this sequel would serve the same energy... aaand nope. I was wrong. So very wrong 🫠 Was it bad? Nah. But it sure as hell wasn’t what I signed up for. My happy expectations? Shattered. 🫥💔 Let’s talk about the leads. Millie and Wendy were both—how do I put this gently?—disasters. Millie had potential back in book one, I liked her! But four years later she’s supposed to be the genius of the group... and instead, she’s out here making decisions that made me want to throw the book at a wall. And Wendy?? Don’t even get me started. Every scene with her had me screaming internally. Girl, get it together. 😩 That said… Freida McFadden, you sneaky queen 👑 Just when I think I’ve figured everything out, she drops a bomb outta nowhere and leaves me speechless. It’s what she does best—and I lowkey live for it. I was warned this one was the “least favorite” of the trilogy, and yeah, I get it now. But even with the frustration, I’m still hyped for the last one. Just not yet—I need a breather and a shot of tequila first 😅📖💀

This story was gripping right from the beginning so a fast read. There’s a great twist as well. Highly recommend.
