Plug-and-Play DisplayLink adapter with a minimum of fuss
This little adapter is really straightforward: it's two HDMI ports and a DisplayLink chipset to control them, with a USB-A port on the other side. If you aren't familiar with DisplayLink chips, they are like a USB video card - they create additional monitor connections without using resources from your computer's internal video chipset. This means they aren't suitable for 3D gaming, but for general office tasks and even basic video playback, they work pretty well these days.To set up the adapter, just plug it in, then install the drivers from DisplayLink's web site. You'll get two additional monitors on your computer, even if it was previously maxed out. With this adapter and a Thunderbolt docking station, I was able to set up a three-monitor setup with an M1 MacBook Air (four monitors if you count the internal display). I just plugged this adapter into the docking station and was good to go.
