BAOFENG UV-5R Two Way Radio Handheld Ham Radio Dual Band Walkie Talkie (5R-2PACK)

At around $20 per radio, the value proposition of the UV-5R is insane. They're relatively well built, transmit and receive clearly in the 1-2 mile range, and are jam-packed with features. The interface is a little confusing and the included booklet isn't great at explaining everything the radio can do, but it's a popular enough model that there's plenty of great guides for it online and in print.I wholeheartedly recommend these to anyone looking for an inexpensive option for tactical field comms or an accessible way to get into the ham radio hobby.

Works great. Was a 1/4 mile down the street from my house (direct line of sight) and my wife was inside the house. Clear as day.

Works great. Good buy. Recommend buying the program cable for PC. Doing by hand is tedious. I already had a couple other units with a base charger and extended battery.

Great backup in case of emergencies.Downfall I guess going to have to find codes myself. No instructions on how to program it or find codes.

These radios are awesome for giving the kids to roam the neighborhood with. First off, what kid doesn't want to play wargames with these and second what parent doesn't want to be able to call kids home without risking a lost phone instead of a lost cheap radio.Frequency range is perfect. Realistically about 3/4 mile as crow flies In all directions of our flat neighborhood. They are small and fit in pocket but we got them special little bags.
